I'm thinking of cutting out the old propane tank locker in the port aft lazarette to create better access to the aft lazarette for stowage and inspection. Our boat is a 1988 E38-200. Does anyone have any experience with this modification?

I've got peeling/flaking paint on certain areas of the inside of the hull. There's also areas where there's no paint, the areas that you don't see behind & under stuff-
I want to remove all the flaking paint. Scraper works to a certain extent but it's not a surface that lends itself to this...
I have an E 28 1985. The hot water tank has rusted at the bottom so I want to remove. I diconnected everything and thought it would be an easy job to take her out but no.
Any suggestions how to cut the tank?
I have a 1976 Ericson 27 with a leaking fuel tank. I need to replace it but it is too big for the opening in the lazarette so i have to cut it up and remove in pieces. Before I go drilling and sawing the tank I want to make sure I am not going to explode. The tank is empty and I don't smell much...
The boatyard says I may have to remove the head stay on my E 27 before they haul her out! Since the mast is deck stepped,is this a problem?
If I slack off on the back stay and head stay and then disconnect the head stay will the shrouds and back stay alone keep the mast standing?
I also need to...
Olson/Ericson 34 owner thinking of replacing the Origo double burner/oven combo with a simple Origo double burner top. Removal of the oven will open up realestate for an A/C unit, which I badly need in the summertime.
I haven't had a need to use the oven in the one year I've owned the boat...
I need to change the seacocks with newer style ball type on my 1976 E27. I was wondering what kind of force I can inflict the old seacock before doing any damage to the thru-hull. The ones under the sink (engine water and sink discharge) are the worse looking, and naturally have the worse...
We will be replacing the CNG stove with either an Origo or a Wallas stove.
The stove actually works quite well, if you don't mind hauling tanks around.
I suspect it is original equipment and wonder if it is worth hauling it to Minnie's. What about the two gas tubes ? The tubes are...
I need to get some developing rust stains out of the fiberglass at the base of a couple stanchions. Is there a product that does this without harming the fiberglass? Thanks.
Does anyone know what's involved in removing shaft in order to replace the cutlass bearing on a E32-2?.........
wondering how the shaft is pulled out....could really use some good advice...thanks.
Hello again everybody! Well my father and I are getting started on fixing up his 36C together. She's in pretty bad shape after having been neglected for the past 5 years now and starting to sink a bit. We've managed to get all the through hulls closed and now every time we come to the boat the...
I hate to admit it but the bilge pump system in my E38 is just about worthless. A single Rule 500 run through plenty of hose all the way back to the transom. It works but its not going to keep up with any real problem. As most of you will know the TAFG grid setup in these boats limits the...
I recently purchased a '76 Ericson 27, on which the portals had been replaced with excessive silicone sealant on the outside of the cabin. I have tried to gently scrape it off without damaging the finish, but is not working. Any suggestions on how to remove it? Would a synthetic scrubbing pad...
All bolts holding the two halves of my rudder quadrant together are hopelessly seized, including the single bolt going through the quadrant and rudder post. In fact, the head of that bolt is about to shear off because I was able to get to wrench to turn the head, but am certain the shank was...
Does anyone know the best way to strip the black paint off the mast of my 1982 E-38? Is it all done by sanding? Or is there a stripping chemical I should use?
Of all the work I have to do, I just know this is going to be the suckiest!!!

Boats on the hard; mast is down. I want to remove and replace standing rigging.
It appears that I need to drill out rivets to get the shrouds off the mast. Anyone done that?
I'm in the middle of replacing 3 (likely original) gate valve seacocks on my 1975 E27. Yup, she's on jack stands and dry.
One (already removed) was the water in for the head. Easily removed.
The second, slightly aft of the sink, and has a junction of plumbing directly above the seacock. Two...
I'll confess immediately that this is not a problem with my E35-3. I also have a small skiff with a Honda outboard on it. One of the grease fittings on the trim shaft sheared off with the grease gun. There is a hollow threaded section of the grease fitting still left in the hole. I've got to get...
I need to remove a transducer installed in the hull this summer bedded with 4200. Suggestions concerning method to dig out the 4200 and any solvents to remove the 4200. Is hair dryer or soldering iron heat useful?
I'd like to take off my teak side board thats in the cockpit so I can repair a split in the wood and refinish it indoors (1976 32-2).
Besides drilling out the plugs and removing the screws, what issues am I going to run into? Would I be better off to try and clamp it in place then to remove...
I hate to admit that I haven't serviced my primary winches in the 4 years that I've owned the boat! I know I'm way overdue. The first step is to remove the drum nut, and I can't loosen either one of them! I've removed this same part with no problem on other winches, but these won't budge...
I just removed my ports in the cabin of my E35. Is there a solvent which will remove the sealant from the aluminum frames more efficiently than a chisel and wire brush?
I started removing the foam-backed vinyl lining in the compartments of my '73 E27. The stuff was sagging and in pretty rough shape..unuseable. The vinyl ripped out easily but the remaining foam that was originally attached to it (3/16 thick) is still mostly glued to the hull and I went at it...
After taking my mast down and trying to remove all electical, I discoved a mass of Polyurethane foam located around the spreaders, which is firmly attached to wires preventing me from removing them and running new ones. It's rather tough stuff, can't be dissolved, and must be scrapped out...
Help!
I've started removing the original fuel tank from my 84 28+, and have run into the problem of the glassed in aluminum tabs not allowing me to remove the tank. I've cut away the plywood from the back, starboard, side of the tank, and can rock the tank up a few degrees, but it won't go any...
Hello
Can anyone recommend some brands that are good for gelcoat oxidation and waxing. I live in Vancouver, BC...so I do have access to Westmarine, but thought I would ask you guys what I should use. I used a bit of turtle wax white polishing compound today and it was fine for the not too...
I need some pointers on removing my motor. I purchased the O/H manual from Don Moyer, which is really worth having, but I did not see anything about removing the motor from the boat. I was going to re do my valves, which I had the two exhaust ones sticking. After removing the head, manifold...
Has anyone removed a rudder while the boat was still in the water? We have some delamination on the bottom of the rudder and we would like to remove it for the repair without hauling it (it was just put back in). Anyone have any expierence in this matter or heard anything. It seems the...
I started work today on commissioning my E-30+ (purchased post-season last fall) for the new season. I noticed that the filament lines for the Dutchman system were in decent shape, but like many things, would eventually need to be replaced.
The problem is that I couldn't figure out how I...
I'm considering removing the nave table area on my 77 E-32 to replace all my seacocks and valves, as well as evaluated my engine mounts and rear engine area. Has anyone done this and what am I in for? It's pretty tough servicing that area properly due to space limitations and I'm thinking...

I need some assistance -
My boat is blocked up at the yard, and they were supposed to be buffing out the hull. Today they told me that there appears to be a old coat of polymer on the boat - one that will not come off with acetone or buffing.
Have any of you ever had to remove an old...
The PO on my boat did a sloppy job of varnishing the woodwork in the head. When I took the mirror and other wood down in anticipation of overhauling it, I found outlines on the bulkhead.
I'm wondering if anyone has a silver bullet solution that will cut dried varnish from that surface. I...
