I'm running my reefing lines into the cockpit and want to find someone who already has knowledge about stainless steel toggles (see link) and whether they are applicable to deck oranizers and clutches.
The toggle is rigid one piece u-shaped channel that has removable plastic handles that...
I am replacing a Formica covered plywood panel in the forward end of the v-berth with one covered with teak veneer. I have some bronze wood screws but was wondering if I should use stainless...
I am cleaning out some older sailing gear. I had bought this for another smaller boat and found it to be too large for my purposes on that boat. Stailess steel roller furler with fairlead, wire, turnbuckle and top swivel. Drum diameter is 4.5 inches. Not sure of manufacturer, maybe somebody will...
Does the discoloration that occurs when welding stainless steel affect its anti-corrosive properties? The reason I ask is that in rebuilding my boom I am eliminating the pop-rivet method of attaching the internal bails and going with a 1/4" machine screw. In welding a 1/4" nut on the back of the...
:egrin: An easy way to clean rust or stains from standing rigging (or deck mounted hardware) is to use Davis FSR. Brush it on with an old toothbrush, let it work overnight, then hose the residue off. When the metal is dry, spray it with Lemon Pledge or a similar product, and polish...
I had a request for the info on my new hand rails so here's the scoop.
Let me start by saying … I hate varnishing … for me it has no socially redeeming qualities. All varnishing does, is take away from otherwise perfectly good sailing days. Sure it looks nice … for about two days. Then...
Has anyone with a mid eighties boat replaced the teak hand rails with stainless rails? I have removed the rails on my 1987 E-34 so I can refinish them, and have been wondering if I should replace them with stainless elliptical tubing to save having to do this again in the future. It is very...
Just wondering if anybody knew of any good Marine Stainless Steel Fabricators in the Los Angeles/Long Beach area. I need bow and stern pulpits for my E29, as well as new stanchions, and possibly, later on, dinghy davits.
thanks!

I saw technical literature on this somewhere most likely on this list, but I couldn't find it with the search. Can anyone providing the engineering rational to justify and/or dismiss aluminum, Stainless, or plastic.
thanks

My boat came with an alcohol stove, and it was surrounded by a thin sheet of stainless steel.
Is it necessary to leave it in there for a propane stove, or is it just there to catch burning dripping alcohol before it sets fire to the plywood?

I am thinking about replacing the stainless steel rod that supports my swing keel. I got the diameter from the online owners manual, but it does not specify a length.
Does anyone know tha approximate length so I can order the rod? I will be machining the ends to fit the hull contours, but...
A couple of years ago I replaced my galley sink. All I could find was the brushed stainless that came with the boat and the new sink suffers from the same defect - it gets the pox in the form of rust spots that have to be removed with metal cleaner fairly often. Does anyone have the same...
After removing all the through deck connections { u-bolts}I found that the rust had started to attach the threads at the very top where the deck seal is located, just about 1/2 inch into yhe deck. this is classic crevice corrosion, oxygen starviation. Al;though this was cosmetic, the metal was...
Has anyone used stainless steel cowl vents as replacements for the original rubbery-plastic ones? The vents on our 1984 E38 are looking terrible but I'm wondering if stainless is a bit too much on an Ericson.
