34-2 Mystery Hose ID help

As I get to know this new to me boat I have spent an inordinate amount of time tracing and identifying hoses and electrical runs. Electrical is hopeless as everything is bundled (mostly neatly) but I have identified most of the hoses. One is eluding me though.

I spent a day removing the entire toilet and holding tank system to be replaced with a composting toilet.** With all that removed I found a hose that I cannot figure out its endpoints. This is shown in the attached photo and runs from under the starboard icebox under the head sink and disappears into a fiberglass bulkhead aft. No clue what it is or where it goes. It might be bilge pump hose but those have been relocated to the engine compartment so I can’t be sure. Anyone else with a 34-2 know what this hose is for? Or what is beneath the icebox? There is a heater hose in there that blocks a clear view.

Thanks.

**Important Note: for hoses you don’t know for sure are empty do NOT use a multitool to cut through them, or at least angle the tool such that the resulting powerful stream of foul water is not aimed directly at your face.

Photo shows hose under the head sink cabinet.

Our '88 boat has a hose from a cast-plastic little "thru hull" type fitting that comes from a recessed drain inside our ice box bottom. The extension of this hose is quite visible under the galley module, about a foot or after it emerges from the darkness beneath the ice box and the layer of foam that was applied to it before these parts must have been assembled.
On our boat that "drain" hose was open, and allowed melt water to flow into the bilge, and unfortunately also the cold air from inside the ice box. :(
I put a plastic ball valve on the hose end (it's under a shelf below the galley sink, laying on the hull, right after we acquired the boat. About once a year I drain out an accumulation of condensation from the evaporator plate. The factory hose on our boat is a wire-reinforced black hose, about 3/4 or 1", that looks just like the section in the left hand part of your photo.

my 89 34-2 has the exact same hose, same fitting and combination of hoses right behind the door. I have often wondered what it is for.

I’d like to learn more about your composting toilet upgrade. If I ever have to replace the head I would probably do that too.

That was my original thought but this hose runs uphill on its way aft. This would not allow dirty icebox water to drain to the galley and its associated discharge arrangement.

Me too! At this point I am leaning towards the AirHead composting toilet, but I haven’t decided between that and the Natures Head or possibly the OGO Origin. Further research needed. I never liked the traditional marine toilet systems and have had several bad experiences with them so all I know right now is that some type of composting toilet is the way to go for us. A major bonus is the greatly increased lazarette space and access to all the systems there without the holding tank.

I'm stumped, but the somewhat translucent, braided section of that hose looks like every vent hose on my 35-3. None of them are connected to a black hose, like yours, though. At least not that I've come across.

Stumps me too but I think "powerful stream of foul water" offers a clue. Did it seem pressurized? How foul was it? Like sink drain foul? Or fresh just sitting a long time?

the holding tank vent tube on my 34-2 runs along the top of the lazarette then straight out the transom. I know this because I replaced it once after over filling and getting air lock :( see above for advice on fluids

The hose in the head may be outlet from shower sump pump ? I’ll look again

That was from the head hose that I erroneously thought I had drained before cutting into it and it was indeed as foul as one would expect. Once all the head hoses were removed I discovered the hose in question.

This is possible. I thought that hose went to port and then aft, but perhaps it goes the other direction. I’ll investigate.

It’s definitely not the holding tank vent, I found that when removing the tank.

Could this be the water inlet for the original pump toilet?

Edit: Now see the other hose labeled as such, so never mind.

Not sure, but on my 32 I found a similar mystery hose ,that I figured out to be a drain hose for my water tank ,so I can empty the tank for winter storage just a thought.

For your potable water tank? That's a new one to me. Where did it lead, the bilge or a through-hull?

Yes, coming from the potable water tank to an end of the hose underneath the galley sink. The end of the hose had a stop plug glued in it, with a hose clamp on it as well, which looked like it had been removed and replaced several times which my thought is to put a small shut off valve on the end so I can drain it and close it easily without gluing the goofy plug in place.. I did not find it till I was reaching my hand back in and under and was like what is this hose, that was kind of hidden under the sill of the cabinet door.

I’ll check that, but it runs uphill and aft so not sure how that would work. I’ll dig deeper.
