Alternatives to cotter pins in turnbuckles

I saw this thread and given I'm prepping for a long passage I thought I'd post my current turnbuckles. I replaced the standing rigging in May when I bought the boat, and he did the cotter pins. I think they look okay. Funny I took a class from Brian Toss many years ago and I remember his mentioning welding rod as a replacement for cotter pins. A very sweet man.
