Cast Ericson windows! ?

well I guess now I need to get serious with the guys at NFM and see if they can in fact deliver or if they were just shinning me on. I will try to send them tracings and photos, coppies if the posts to show there is interest ect. and see what they say. Meanwhile it anyone has a pair of frames that they do not mind loaning to the cause let me know. I imagine they would be returned but the knock I have heard about the company is that they can be painfully slow sometimes. That complaint stems from the really nice pattern fixtures they loan out to cut the window openings, and it appears that there are not enough to go around and people have to wait for one to get returned by someone. So be forewarned and only offer up spares, I would feel terrible if someone spent months without them or worst lost them. Edd:egrin:

I would volunteer my port or will create a CAD file. I brought my home today; looks like a die cast , which can't be cheep.

The fixed ports were custom-made for Ericson, and all 4 ports are different. The same set of 4 ports was used on all models to keep things simple and reduce inventory. I can't recall the earlier manufacturers but we switched to Lewmar in the mid-80's. Lewmar subsequently listed the forward ports in their catalog as stock items, and it looks like they still offer them in both fixed and opening configurations (Standard Portlight Size 4R & 4L). I don't know if they'd have any info on the aft ports.

If the new windows is a bit larger, I guess it will be possible to trim the opening to fit, but if the opening is too large it will not be so good.

I can’t speak for certain about Ericsons from that era, but at least for the more recent models the forward fixed ports are smaller than the aft ones. The vertical dimension of the ports tapers down slightly as you move forward. The angles on the ends of the ports are also different.

Gist of it seems to be that some folks in the past had some problems with the products, but none recently.

For those of you that followed Wally's rebuild of his C&C 38 (site still up although he has gone cruising). He had to have some of the composite NFM ports replaced.
