companionway hatch cover

Is there anyone out there can give me some advice on replacing the sliding companionway cover on my 1972 E-35 II?
The original has been neglected by the PO and is in such a state that it cannot be brought back. I will probably have to have a new one made (at great expense) but I thought perhaps someone may have had some experience with the same problem and might have some suggestions.

OTOH, are you maybe referring to the cover over the slider, aka the "sea hood" or "hatch garage" as some call it?
