E-35 transom fortification

I sailed to Hawaii last month (from Los Angeles) on a 42' Perry. The conditions we experienced mid-ocean led me to worry a little about the wide flat transom on my Ericson 35 and how it might do under such a pounding. Has anyone done any fortification on their E-35 transom?? I'm thinking that some additional tabing inside the lazarette might make sense. Along the top of the transom where it meets the deck I always have a hairline crack where the two molded pieces were put together. I'm wondering if such a fortification might also keep this crack from coming through the next gel coat repair? Any thoughts?
