e29 chain plates- 1971

What is imbedded in the glass for chainplates? stainless? marine ply?
Has anyone found degraded material within and tackled the repair? any thoughts?

Is it the same for a 1971?

i would say they will be the same but maybe someone with more knowledge about E29 will chime in
