E35II Holding Tank Installation

Here is the installation of a new 14ga Holding Tank for the E35II.
The Tank is a Ronco (www.ronco-plastics.net) Model 245 with Access Port.
The dimensions are 24.5"L X 16.5"W X 9.125"H and is the largest tank I could
fit in the Salon Setee Locker incuding the 1.5" Hoses.
The Access Port needs to be sealed with silicon on the bung O-Ring and the
Port base to prevent leaks :nerd:
Measure the Locker area carefully BEFORE purchase and installation......
because all Ericsons are not built equally :)
Other Tanks are available from Todd at www.toddusa.com.
The original Tank was 5ga and TOTALLY inadequate for a Holding Tank :cool:

On my 35-2 that is where the two batteries to run the engine and house are located. where are yours and which is the original location? I have been looking for a tank to fit under the port side settee without success. figured it was a straight shot Whit fair space and a location that is difficult to access for storage. But could only get about 12-14 gal tanks to fit the space and would loose a lot of space so haven't acted. the batteries in mine seem to be a long way from the action so moving them may not be a bad idea. any way thanks in advance for the info. Edd

E35-II Battery Banks

The (2) 6V "Golf Cart" House Batteries are located under the Port Salon Setee
adjacent to the Engine. The (1) 12V Series 27 Starting Battery is located
in the Locker under the Port Quarter Birth Navagation Station sitting area.
The House Batteries are located where the Original (2) 12V Series 24
combined House / Start Battery Bank was located.
The new 12OVAC / 12VDC Panels are located adjacent to the Nav Station.

Bye Bye CNG

Yes....I removed the CNG System. The tank was leased from SDG&E
(ONLY source of CNG here in SD) and the PO returned it. Took the regulator
to Minney's in Costa Mesa. They have lots of CNG parts.
Will be installing (2) 10lb propane tank Locker in the Starboard Lazarette and
Stove Top in the Galley where the Oven was.
Charged the Adler Barbour with R-414b and it works great.

Holding Tank Installation

I'm working on installing holding tank in my '79 E35-2. Is the tank shown in your picture located on the common wall with the head?

I believe it is the common wall. Thanks for resurrecting this thread I've not seen. Some PO put a 13 gallon tank below the v birth squandering a bunch of space. My cut out isn't big enough for that tank, but maybe I can easily take off the top frame, or another tank would fit in my cut out opening.

Interesting... I am just taking out a horrendously installed SS holding tank out from under the port settee and installing a 20 gal poly tank in the V berth : )
The hoses lead more naturally to and from the V berth location.
And a rectangular poly water tank athwartships behind it again replacing a poorly installed SS tank there. There is an issue of weight forward so I will emrty the tank at every occasion and not fill the water tank unless needed for a trip. Everything in life is a trade off ; )
But it does make available far more storage space far more usable under the settee.

yes you are so right Loren... as Peggy Hall would say... in a few years the SS tank would look like Swiss cheese after the acid attack. The local 'expert' in the marina came over to tell me replacing it with poly was a mistake because they were subject to permeation. I just smiled.
Yes I will post some pics... having to redo bulkheads in the V berth to accommodate the tanks. Quite a mess right now.
The previous 'professional' installation just stunk. Literally. All the hoses came off to low spots in the bilge and were full of black water... even the (cheap clear plastic) vent hose was full. No wonder it stunk. It was also a pick up tube design vs a bottom drain and the SS rigid pipe only kinda sorta went near the bottom so the tank was maybe 10-15% full of very nasty stuff that had sat for several years when I bought the boat. And this was not the PO... it was a 'professional' boatyard install.
