Ericson 38-200

Good Afternoon,

Not sure I posted it correctly so I am doing it again.
I have been sailing (Catelina 36 and Beneteau 40) with friends (in the Med, in the St Martin area and Lake Ontario, where I live.)
I have been getting my licences and certifications, slowly but surely.

Virus permitting ($) I’d like to purchase my own boat and I started to look around. Maybe for net season.
I really like the Ericson 38-200.
Id be sailing on Lake Ontario at first but would eventually like to try to go south.
not planning long passages or ocean crossings , I don’t think.
Though my question is: would it be strong enough to do very long passages if I decided to?

Any comments and suggestions?

Thank you !

Corrado

Welcome aboard Corrado,

You have come to the right place to ask Ericson questions. There are number of E-38 owners who I am sure will be chiming in shortly.

Sure you can make long passages on an Ericson. The E27 has sailed to Hawaii and Alaska, the 34s and 35 to Hawaii many times, the 38s to the South Seas and the commute to Oahu. Naturally any boat of 1980s vintage needs renovation for offshore, but Ericsons are well built and have stood up well.

That’s great. I am happy to hear this. I’ll look into it further then.

You were close - you just put it in the wrong forum. Moving this to 'Design and Function' and will leave a redirect in place for 60 days!

Just watched the video. Yes, funny enough I had watched them already. Didn’t realized it’s the same person. He is the first one who got me looking at Ericson in the first place !

Hi Corrado,

We purchased our 38-200 new in 1988. We've been sailing it on Lake Superior since it was new. It's a very good comfortable sailboat. I've sailed it all over the lake by myself and with my wife.

If there is anyway I can be of help let me know.

Enjoy,
Bob
