Extra boom line on 30+

I have an extra line running through the boom to a sheave at the rear where it is knotted off, as shown in the attached photos. There's a long length looped up at the mast. Any ideas about its intended purpose? I have a topping lift, reefing line and outhaul in place.
Ignore the red/blue line, that's temporarily restraining the sail cover.

Looks like our boom hardware , with the outhaul in the center sheave, and sheaves on each side for a first and second reef.
After many seasons of never needing a second reef, I did replace one of the factory lines with a 3/16 messenger line. We now have one "deep" reef for the main. This idea would totally depend on local sailing winds and etc, tho.

As with @Loren Beach, the three in-boom lines for us are the outhaul and two reefs. If you undo that knot and pull it through the sheave, you'll have yourself a second reef, if needed.

Thank you both. I hadn’t thought of a second reef, I’m sailing in San Diego light winds! I’ll run a messenger line and gain myself a nice spare line.
