You must be blessed with good pipes.I just start singing...
When it's blowing say a moderate 15 knots and it's easy going I play Classical very loud and it's pretty cool. Not a lot but the odd time it's fun.I saw PDQ in concert in the mid-70's. Does that count?
@Rosco We tend not to have music on while sailing, but maybe we'll try.
While working on the boat, I listen a lot. Something like surf guitar, Santana, the Chieftains, Shorty Rogers, if it's going well. Pat Methany, Bob Marley, Hugh Masekala, or Neil Young, if it's not.
Eddie Harris is one of my sax godfathers, and the original reason I play EWI…reinforced by my time with Chuck Greenberg and #Shadowfax. Mad props!Whenever I play jazz my wife says I’m copying Christian but it is kind of perfect - Bill Evan’s, Eddie Harris Swiss Timing makes you feel like you’re getting somewhere. I also like to stream WWOZ.org. It doesn’t get old and nothing bad comes from NOLA. Rolling Stones are great at anchor. Mazzy Star when you’re down to red lights and oil lamps.
That's a great memory and truly epic. Thank you.Last year I left Bahamas on the tail of a tropical storm. The first night out, already 100 or so miles from land I got hit with a series of thunderstorms, making 7 knots with 2 reefs in the main, lightning crashing everywhere.
The stereo was blasting "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone. That might have been my highlight of 2024.
You played with Shadowfax??!!?!?!?!!!Eddie Harris is one of my sax godfathers, and the original reason I play EWI…reinforced by my time with Chuck Greenberg and #Shadowfax. Mad props!
Long story…knew Charlie Bisharat (violin) from South OC (KSBR @Saddleback), and was invited to sit in a few times whenever they played The Coachouse. good times. Chuck made that lyricon sing, and said I should try a WX11 w/VL70M synth module. I’m still playing my rig to this day.You played with Shadowfax??!!?!?!?!!!

I've managed to learn three songs on the ukulele, Hotel California, Daniel by Elton John and the Rainbow Connection by Paul Williams. However, this is arguably the best version of my favorite work.In a similar vein, there's this:
Once or twice I have played sea shanties on the stereo while at sail, mostly as a lark. I've got a very good album by The Longest Johns:
For salty resonance, it's pretty hard to beat our @Geoff W. on concertina at anchor, oil lamp glowing, evergreens bobbing in the background:
If I had the time and coordination, I'd try to learn how to play one of those things.
LOL...that's DIR (Doing It RightI’ve been forcibly ejected from the Coach House
Thank you so much
I bet you still know the lyric. It stays with us."Sailing " by Rod Stewart.
I used to know most of the lyrics and would sing when (alone!) on watch, on a delivery, about 0300. Good Times!
