Kubota Diesel Equivalent Parts to Universal Engines... Let's put this to bed, Shall we?

What is standing in the way of securing KUBOTA parts for one's KUBOTA engine?
I'm not a lawyer and am unaware of EricsonYachts rules/regulations for sharing manuals, other than those created for Ericson Yacht, which are readily available. I am also unaware of U.S. state or federal laws preventing the copying and distribution of manuals for education purposes.

Got a UNIVERSAL (ahem...KUBOTA) engine block in your boat? Yup... I do.
Did one's regional UNIVERSAL diesel engine parts dealer go belly up? Yup...Ours did, here in PNW (Seattle's Gallery Marine Engine LLC no longer sells parts, although they provide service).
Does one periodically need parts on the day one is working on one's inboard diesel? Yup...We do.
Would it be helpful to have a parts cross-over list and diagrams to simplify purchasing? Yup...Our local KUBOTA dealer spent way too much time trying to help us...to no avail.

What's available on EricsonYacht.org / Resources tab with a search for "kubota?"
M25XP service manual and parts list
I read a number of pages from "KubotaPart1 Service.pdf" (1 of 3 downloads available), and already learned MUCH more about my own 3-cyclinder engine. And, I pulled the manifold gasket # off it for my M25, and I suspect that it's the common crossover. Thanks @Tom Metzger

However... What if you don't wish to trust Tom's statement: "These are the manuals for the M-25XP engine," since M-25XP isn't stated anywhere on the download docs. What if you order a $000.00 part from this resource and it turns out to be incorrect. First and Foremost: Don't blame Tom...

KUBOTA dealers request an engine block model and serial number. And Universal metal-tag stamped numbers will not do. How does one find the block number?
See the following:

Specific to Universals in Ericson's, this hyperlink in SAILNET, & information from ErikTheRed may help:
"For anyone who is looking for their SERIAL NUMBER LOCATIONS for a 5411 here are the positions I have found. I would think this would apply to other Universals as well.
  • Stamped on upper left hand corner of block - ignition side - facing flywheel end (front of engine).
  • Stamped in block directly above flywheel housing, under front oil filler.
  • On engine nameplate located on reverse gear housing cover.
  • On engine nameplate located on engine manifold."
At the same hyperlink, there once seemed to be a working hyperlink to provide a one-to-one comparison: "The link above " History of Universal Motor Company 4 " will tell you what engine number your Kabota engine is, which makes the search much easier." but... it's 404 as you can see: http://www.hessmarine.ca/universalhistory4.html
Does ANYONE have the live resource today?

RitSim and jvis on SailboatOwners dot com provided a useful story of their experience:
"M25 there's a flat part of the block, facing up, immediately inboard of the injection pump. After I scraped the paint away I found the numbers were filled in with putty.
RitSim's image as screenshot is attached here, which may help some owners.

Among our members, specific pages from the KUBOTA PARTS LISTS, for example:

Again, our local Kubota dealer could not cross match with the Universal numbers pulled from my own engine plate, see attached image, further illustrating the need to find one's block numbers to begin the Kubota parts journey for your Kubota block.

If you haven't tried it...go for it and report back.
Soon, I'm going to try to find a puddy-filled series of letters&numbers on an engine block and will report...

Hi NW,
I'm deep in the engine bay with my own work, but these are a few other references on this. Perhaps you've already seen them. Or, linked them. Sorry, I'm flying fast and low and didn't read as carefully as I might have.

Cheers,
Jeff

these are a few other references
Awesome. This Universal models cross-referenced to Kubota models chart is by far, the BEST, quick view resource I've seen. I wonder who created it...cause there are gaps.
@Christian Williams 's pic of THELONIOUS II block is an example of how some engine may be stamped.

@Joliba posted 14 years ago an link to a source one might use, once one knows the Kubota engine model in one's vessel. Now, one may currently purchase a digital Service Manual for $10.95 at this link:
Example of listing screen shot with Kubota D850 (M25?) attached.

Parts list with part numbers and superseded part numbers (in digital format), would be cool to find.

Why does this matter? Well... I work often with outboards...and I simply HATE seeking parts...when I wish to spend time learning how to use the part. For example... I get outboard, take picture of engine tag, use Google lens to copy tag, cross link it with a digital records/schematics of an online parts supplier; record hyperlink in Google contact. Then, when I need parts... I reference hyperlink to engine parts/schematic; determine part numbers, ask my local supplier down the road for availability, ...if not avail, order it if needed ASAP...or wait for local delivery. Oh Yes, each letter on outboard tag means something...see this hyperlink:, https://www.boats.net/catalog/yamaha
Example of Yamaha 9.9hp...hyperlink for parts and tag pic attached.
...but then, you all knew this already...

Okay... above is an example of an online KUBOTA parts look up. Just love it:)
Wait... :*(
Personally, I'm already "stuck" considering the first drop-down menu of "SERIES" I just don't know for my Universal M25, supposedly D850 (what does the "D" stand for?); Is there a "-" between D and 850? What's the SERIES, if D850 is the model?
... or does this particular online supplier just not sell D850 parts?

This online supplier needs to know the following about one's engine:
SERIES, MODEL, ENGINE MODEL, and less likely the DECK MODEL
Any Kubota professional out there to clarify?

Recently, I thought I found an exhaust manifold gasket part ( and associated number) I might need for a project. I sent the part number & name, "15261-1236-0 PACKING, EXHAUST MANFOLD" to our local Kubota dealer. Besides emailing, "I have never stocked it and would have to bring it in from the factory. Would be about a week to arrive at my place. Cost would be $10.00 for the part plus inbound shipping."
They also wrote, "This part supersedes to a 15263-12360."

@dhill recently in 2022 learned his Universal M25XP, was a "Kubota D950 block that was used in the Kubota B7200 tractor."
Try this... Enter "B7200" into this Kubota search at the MODEL like I've done here:
Then, click the "Kubota Tractor B7200D" hyperlink, and EUREKA... an online parts list... at least for one Universal engine block...probably.

NOTE: with reference to part numbers... dashes matter to those in the parts business...and to me trying to spend as little time securing them.

All the more reason to find Updated Parts Lists for both our one-in-the same UNIVERSAL engine and marine associated devices and the KUBOTA.

Nearly 20 years ago, member @chaco posted this Westerbeke engine list with manufacturing dates... might be of interest to some, and uploaded/attached here.

WOW! Just found... this hyperlink on Catalina34 website, and C34 members may gain greater access:
https://www.c34.org/wiki/index.php?title=Diesel_Engine and then, click Engine and Transmission Manuals and Universal Factory Service Bulletins
and Kubota Parts Lists/Manuals for
Although diesel engines supplying C34s are listed primarily, we're lucky that the M25 was listed as being a Kubota B6200D. Super Cool. I've added it as an EricsonYachts resource:

If your engine is there... maybe you can add your Kubota manual to the Resource page for others.

EUREKA! Thar be one letter, numbers and a "-" stamped upon my engine block!
No puddy filling the stamped block model D850 nor the serial # _____________ Can you find it in the picture(s) attached?
Here's how the discovery went down in real time and piss-poor videography...
