On the E39, there are two sets of very thick fittings for the shrouds that protrude (permanently) through the deck instead of chainplates. They are attached to (or part of) the "Lost In Space" looking metal structures inside the main cabin. (I say "Lost In Space" because it has large holes in the middle, reminding me of the support beams on the spaceship in the old TV series).
Does anyone know if these are aluminum or stainless steel? I'm asking because I'm looking to replace/rebed the chainplate covers, and I don't want to have dissimilar metals touching on such an important part of the boat. Also, the local metal shop wants $20 each ($80 total) for aluminum, or $40 each ($160 total) for stainless. Big difference.
