Mast Height for 38-200

Jim Picerno

1989 38-200
Looks like I'm finally getting a weather window to head south to FL from CT, but I'll be on the ICW for part of the trip. My owners manual states that the "mast height above water (exclusive of antennas)" is 55 ft. A liberal guesstimate for the "antenna height" would be 5 ft. which brings my total mast height above water to 60 ft. Can anyone confirm or deny this estimate? Thanks

Definitive way is to run a 100-foot take up on your main halyard, read it at the waterline, and then add 5 feet for antenna/instruments/etc.

Ballpark estimate is: I-dimension (deck to masthead) of 50 feet, plus deck to waterline (approx 4 feet), plus 5 feet for anything above the masthead.

So, yeah, 60 feet is probably a decent estimate.

I asked my friend with an E-38-200 if he would request a lift at around 60'. His reply:
"Yes- 60 is minimum and I would lift the bridge if that was the shown height."
(Around here the lift height of the span or opening is shown by a large-font number scale numbered down the side of the abutment, with the numbers measuring "down" to higher numbers at water level, as the river level lowers. It's very handy.)
