PNW Rendezvous Summer 2024

Frank Langer

Is there any further information available on number of boats coming to the rendezvous, what food we should bring to the potluck dinner to ensure a balanced meal, is any speaker arranged, etc.?
Thanks,
Frank

Hi All,

Apologies for the delay in completing all of this, these past two weeks we had the opportunity to sail from Port Hardy around Cape Scott and to points south (not on our E27). From what I understand, there are 8 boats signed up, and I look forward to seeing all of you there!

My tentative schedule for the Rendezvous is as follows:

Friday:
1200-1600 Arrival at Maple Bay (or whenever you get here)
1600 to late - Happy Hour BYOB, bring snacks, share if you like, dinner, and general socializing

Saturday:

1000-1200: Boat show - Show off your Ericson to the rest of us
1300-1400: Talks - Can anyone share a topic they'd like to talk about?
1400-1530: Return of the Blind Dinghy Race (Prince Hall needs to defend his title!)
1530-1630ish: Happy Hour - Day 2
1700-1900: potluck dinner
1900-late: White Elephant giveaway, Party Game?

Sunday:

Farewell and departure.

Note that all these times should be considered to be "ish" as we all know it's bad juju to sail to a fixed schedule (other than the tides).

To pull this off, we will need some assistance.

  1. Is anyone willing to give some ted-type talks and/or do a Q&A for the talks section? Last year we had a good talk on how to tune your standing rigging, and electrical upgrades, Two years ago, I gave a talk on Lithium power system I installed on Sagres.
  2. For the white elephant giveaway, If you'd like to participate, please bring a small boating related item, I figure a value of around $20 CAD or so is a good target.
  3. Can someone help to make up a party game like we had last year? This isn't my skill set, and last year's Ericson Jeopardy was a hoot.
For the pot luck, it would also be good to pre-organize who's bringing what.

Sagres will bring Pulled Pork again for a Main, but if we can fill out the rest that would be great.

Appetizers:
1.
2.
3.

Salad:
1.
2.
3.

Mains:
1. Sagres - Pulled Pork
2.
3.

Dessert:
1.
2.
3.

Thanks Everyone, and sorry again for the delays on all of this. I look forward to seeing you all again!

Best Regards,

Hans, S/V Sagres

Karen and I (Morning Mist) will bring an appetizer. We are flying back from out of province, then getting our boat ready and hope to make it. Fingers crossed and looking forward to seeing many of you again!

I.... don't think I'm going to make it. Work has been nuts, and I haven't yet done the normal start-of-season things I need to do before going off on a long cruise. Sorry to miss it, hoping to be up that way in August instead.

Hi Bruce,
I understand being busy, behind on everything. But that is not a sufficient excuse to miss an Ericson event, which generally wins over anything else. :)
I have often appreciated the quality of your posts and replies on this site, and was really looking forward to meeting you in person this year. Is there any chance you might reconsider?

Hey, Frank!

Thanks for the kind words. I was looking forward to meeting you in person, too!

I'd say... it's not totally out of the question, but the odds are low. It takes me about a month of evenings to get me and the boat ready for a cruise (boat-prep, route-planning, marina reservations, provisioning, plus, plus, plus... ) and, in theory I've got almost a month before I'd need to leave for Maple Bay. Dunno. I'll give it some thought.

Hi Bruce,

Worse comes to worse, you could always join us shoreside, there are several motels and hotels available in Duncan, an easy trip to Maple Bay.

Interesting idea. at a glance, it looks like about a 4-hour trip from here each way, by way of the Tsawwassen-Long Harbor Ferry

I'll have to look at ferry schedules and see if I can come up with something that makes sense.

Coho from Port Angeles to Victoria is also a possibility, but it'd be a longer day (I'd have to coordinate three ferry schedules - Mukilteo/Kingston, Coupeville/Port Townsend and then the Coho).

Hmmm

Thanks for the update Hans! Quincy will bring an app, probably bacon wrapped dates or something similar.

Bruce if you can get up there it’d be great to see you and Makana again, but if not we will catch you the next time around.

Bummed to report that Truent II and I will not be attending. I was really looking forward to the opportunity to meet so many fine people and check out so many fine Ericsons all in one place, especially as my boat is a bit of a blank slate at the moment. Seeing firsthand what others have done with their boats is educational and inspiring. I'm hoping everyone attending will post lots of good stories and pics for our vicarious enjoyment.

Marlin and I have been so very much looking forward to the meet-up this summer, a highlight on our calendar. However - there is a celebration for my paternal Uncle Ralph on July 31, the day he turns 100! We will be heading back to Wisconsin for the celebration, and spend time with my ailing Mum. Uncle Ralph still lives alone at his home on the lake I grew up on, still drives to meet up with his buddies for lunch, and is still mentally sharp, albeit a bit slower! We will miss being with all of you this summer.

We will bring a pasta salad for the potluck. Might be a little late arriving. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Well crepe. A day late and a dollar short. I'm back on Arcturus* for the summer, but I had to turn in my passport for renewal anyway.

*It's still for sale. Soon with fresh bottom paint!
