Repainting boom end fittings?

Wondering if anyone has experience painting the gooseneck end of the boom. Original is a Kenyon which was originally painted black with epoxy paint. At this point, paint is almost all gone, there is some pitting and I'm doing other repairs on the boom - replacing some of the sheaves. Wondering about painting the aluminum end pieces while it is apart. Thought about an enamel or epoxy paint meant for metal like some of the Rustoleum paints.

Anyone with any experience with this?

While some might suggest that you have to acid etch the aluminum and pray to the gods in various ways, I've had good luck with those hardware store spray cans like Rustoleum, Tremclad, etc., especially for smaller jobs like a boom end. These paints also come in small cans if you prefer to use a brush where spraying would make a mess.
Let us know what you decide, and how it turns out.
