Folks,
Had anyone entertained an idea of replacing 12v bulbs with LED bulbs? If yes what was the brand and were there any issues?
I am thinking of attacking running lights and mast lights first.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
They are more money up front, however the light emitted is less harsh, use less electricity, needing less battery amps, needing less charging and more sailing. And there is less heat produced.
Anyone found LED replacements for festoon bulbs, the ones with the dimpled ends, not the conical ends? My running lights use that type and I haven't found a LED replacement for the kind with dimpled ends (but plenty for the conical end festoon bulbs).
I may just replace them with new LED running light fixtures to assure that they meet navigation requirements.
I just installed 3 of the festoon bulbs (pointed ends) from SUPERBRIGHTLED.COM in my interior overhead lights. One was a high output 3 LED, the other 2 were high output 6 LED, both in the warm white. Very bright good color light at a very reasonable price.
The sensibulbs are by far the best LED replacement you can get. They have figured out how to make them the same color as incandescent bulbs. A friend of mine has them and swears by them in spite of the high price. Unfortunately they do not yet have a festoon adapter. I am working on making one for myself.
