Rub Rail paint

The rubber part of the rub rail on my 1976 E27 was chalky and bleeding white on the sheer stripe, pretty common. I tried painting it with some buoy paint and it is working great so far - 6 months.

I’d not heard of this before, and Google was not my friend, but this arcane product HAS been brought up here before…starting 20 years ago.

Apparently, as an “industrial product,” it isn’t “paint” the same way Velveeta isn’t “cheese.” Well, maybe not quite the same way.

What makes it better than paint? How’s its UV resistance? The label, the portrait of an irascible Mr. Humboldt (I presume), and the warnings make it look like it smells REALLY strong.

I have used Exterior Latex house paint. After a good cleaning job so there is no more chalkiness left, a coat of latex paint lasts about 2 years, then flakes off.
