After my first season of using my boat I've decided I will need to add a Raymarine MFD to enable me to update the other Raymarine autopilot instruments already installed (P70, ACU-100, and the EV-1) as Raymarine only allow you to update their instrument firmware using a Raymarine MFD.
I have decided to remove the old Garmin GPSMAP180 and install a Digital Yacht GPS150 (NMEA 01083 antenna) and a cheap Raymarine A78 MFD. Because my boat has the legacy NMEA 0183 network as well as the SeakTalk NG (NMEA2000) network interfaced together with an Actisense NGW-1 I've decided to have the GPS150 running whenever the iMux and NEXUS server are switched on this will then provide a GPS sentence to the iMUX, VHF Radio, and HF Radio. The A78 and VHF Radio both have an internal GPS antenna which can also be used as a back up to the GPS150 if needed.
So now my Autopilot network and A78 chart plotter will be on their own power circuit. This means I can power off these power hungry instruments and just leave the GPS150, iMUX, and NEXUS on providing all the necessary navigation data via wifi to my other navigation devices (laptop, tablet etc.)
