Quincy cruising in Mexico November / December 2024

I’ve been meaning to post a trip update for a while now and between connectivity and things to do / places to see / people to meet haven’t gotten around to it until now. It’s amazing how our days fill up even though we have nothing in particular to do!

Here are some highlights:

The sail south from San Diego to Cabo was light wind champaign downwind sailing. These two photos sum up the sailing experience. A couple nice anchorages along the way broke up the 7 day passage.

We only spent two nights anchored off Cabo and went in to get to get fuel, water, and provisions. I find Cabo a lot like Vegas. 48 hours is about my max before I start looking for the exit. From there we headed north into the Sea of Cortez.

Looking across the San Jose channel from Isla San Francisco to the Baha Peninsula.

Heading up a rugged drainage (I put shoes on) on Isla Partida.

Local flavor! This guy turned into a ceviche that we shared (with some tequila and some irony) with a panguero named Renaldo while anchored one night.

We rented a car in Loreto and took a day trip out of Loreto up to the mission at San Javier, one of the oldest missions on the Peninsula.

Christmas was spent in Bahia Concepcion, hiking up from Playa el Burro past petroglyphs to a view looking down on the anchorage.

Here’s another typical Sea of Cortez anchorage, beautiful water surrounded by incredible desert country. This is Punta Pulpito on the way back south from Bahia Concepcion.

It’s not all empty desert though, there are some big shots around. This was at Marina Puerto Escondido heading back south past Loreto. We spent the week of the New Year here before continuing south.
