1988 Ericson 26 on trailer for sale

Selling our Ericson 26. $6,000 Located in Bend, Oregon.

We bought this about a year and a half ago and am realizing we just can't seem to make the time to go sail her.

We had the engine (Universal Diesel Model M-12) looked at by Cook Engine in Portland and they said it is all in good working order. They also said engines can fail at any point, so our plan was to mount an outboard for back up.

Happy to answer any questions, but I don't know much about the boat. I bought it from someone in Arizona of all places who purported to be the second owner, but he never personally sailed the boat.

The mast and rigging is in my garage which is why it is not shown in the pics.

The trailer is in great roadworthy shape. I added the hydraulic braking system then spent another $2k getting it ready for the haul from Arizona to Oregon. I forget what else I had done...maybe bearings or an axle replacement. At any rate, I had a mechanic look it over and fix whatever he recommended.

I'll try to check back in here to see if there is any interest, but if interested, I'm always watching my email: Craig@PeakReturns.net.

Thanks!!

The bulb keel is interesting. I wonder what the story is behind that.
Agreed. Lots of surprises, here. Is this the "shoal keel" version? I didn't know they made the E25+ in 1988 (I thought the E26-2 replaced it in 1984). Also didn't know they put an inboard on the E25+. I thought the only options were an outboard or saildrive.

She looks to be in nice shape and having that nice trailer to go with it is fantastic. Best wishes with the sale!

You're right about the year; I didn't even notice that. No way is it a 1988 if it is in fact a 25+.

Based on the location of the forward hatch, I'm pretty sure it's actually a 26. See pictures ending in 2 and 14.

Thanks for all the additional info guys. I had it in my head that it was a 25+, but after reading your response and looking through my paperwork I can see that it does appear to be a 26. I was looking for a way to edit the post, but may not be able to after a period of time. I'm not sure what the proper protocol is in this situation. Seems I can either leave this post/response here clarifying that it does appear to be a 26 and not a 25+, or possibly I could delete the original post and repost with correct info. I'll look through the site to see if I can find some answers on how to proceed.

[Boat model now corrected: 26, not 25+]

Nice Ericson! Even Nicer price, also. Heck a new double axel trailer is worth almost that much money.
Good Luck!

This boat showed up on Facebook marketplace recently. The new listing owner posted a price under 10K. Before I go look at her, what can you tell me about how she sails, does she have a winged, hinged mast step, and any known immediate maintenance jobs pending before I challenge his posted price.

Thats an interesting thing for a mechanic that just gave an engine a clean bill of health to say.

OP hasn't logged in since March 2024, so you're unlikely to get an answer from them.

I can tell you, as an E26 owner, they do have a deck-stepped mast, but it is not hinged. They sail great - very well balanced, even if only sailing with the headsail. The trailer is a valuable part of this sale - would love to have that for my boat.

There's ALWAYS immediate maintenance jobs. :egrin: Do you think we own these only to sail?

In the initial post the owner at the time included their direct email address.

I’m going to look it up- do you happen to know where the e26 is located now? My e25 keel is in the bottom of Lake Mead and I have a gas outboard- this e26 would definitely be a step up. My swing keel is towable and easy to launch, has a trailer, etc., but the diesel is a plus…. Thx, Steve

How it happened? I kept the e25 in a slip, so it didn’t get inspected because it hadn’t been trailered in a few years. But the pivot bearing on my e23 is weak and looks like it will meet the same fate if I do not remove the keel and find a way to reinforce it. I could feel the keel wobble back and forth when trying point, unlike the e25 which simply disappeared. I heard the cable banging on the hull, so I thought I’d picked up someone’s fishing line and hardware. My slip was at the closed end of a row of boats, and normally it takes a tight tight to get it into the slip without touching the bumpers. But I could no longer make it without a 3 or more point turn. So- I took it back out to beach it, look under the hull only to find it gone. Other than not being able to point much while sailing, I had no other symptoms of the swing keel taking leave of absence. Because the e33 keel is an exact copy of the e25 keel, and it needs to be repaired also, at least I’ll have a pattern to copy.

@Second Wind

So what you are saying is that the embedded SS plate that holds the centerboard pin broke on you? I believe it’s either a U shaped plate or two plates.

Also the e26 above has been sold.

The seller is Shane St Claire. I started a messenger exchange before the snow event. He sent me contact information as phone 971*219*5797. He has an active sell site on Facebook Marketplace. Feel free to contact him. Je's in the Portland area.
I've decided to get a larger cruiser anyway.
Later!
