Thanks for this update, Christian! Very well spoken, and an inspiration to us all, a reminder of what's important.
Best wishes in the days, weeks and months ahead! And yes, do go sailing! :)

Jeeze... I was just sitting here, feeling sorry for myself (metal-on-metal hip in self-destruct mode now) and saw your video. Thanks for the words of wisdom Christian - they could have not come at a better time. Much peace and strength to you both - and of course an invitation to come to New Hampshire anytime... =)

Christian,
I spotted and watched your video today. I'm glad you both were not injured and are going to be carrying on. Your attitude is great, and I hope it won't be as hard as I imagine it could be.

Best regards,
Craig and Ellen

Totally heart-breaking, Christian. But yeah...all we have is the "now," and at least Thelonious II is still in good shape. And even though I'm up in SF, we ARE all in this together as sailors, Californians, and Vikings! :egrin:

Thanks for the update Christian. We've been thinking about you. My wife is amazed by your composure in the face of all this.

Does anybody know how Glyn Judson is getting on? He was in that part of the world the last time I heard from him.

From this article it appears that that Santa Monica did escape direct damage. It's right next door, though. I do not know Glyyn's address, just the locale.

@Christian Williams - We've been following this disaster with concern and are saddened to hear of your loss. Thanks for your reflections on your experience. They have reverberated in my thoughts with ruminations on my own attachments to material things. I've wondered what I would (should) put in a ditch bag for our home. Wishing you and Tracy all the best as you rebuild.

Several of us tried to get hold of Glyn after he sold his boat. I tried everything, since he lived near me and I had visited his boat. Conclusion I came to was that perhaps he's no longer with us, possibly in every sense.

Christian, your fellow writer Ernest Hemingway defined courage as grace under pressure. Seems to fit you I think. I went ahead and purchased the one audio book of yours I didn't own. Not that the 4 or 5 bucks buys much in the way of California real estate but I thought it was the least I should do.

Oh no. When I joined this forum, he invited me to his home, and I met his wife Marilyn, this just after I retired and was consulting in Marina del Rey. I also met the pup he was training at the time. Glyn was very helpful to me as I maneuvered the care of my first (and so far, only) boat. I lost touch when I moved my boat to Dana Point several years ago (2018?). And, I have been unable to contact him recently as well. I didn't know he had sold his boat. Another reason to stay in touch with people.

For those interested, we do hold monthly community virtual sessions. These meetings are not all about our boats, but our lives, and the world we live inhabit and marina fees, insurance don't get me started! If you need support or an ear to hear you, we are here to support the community and boats we love.
