What an amazing communicator. Very touching, honest and full of "Christian authenticity." WOW.

Several of us tried to get hold of Glyn after he sold his boat. I tried everything, since he lived near me and I had visited his boat. Conclusion I came to was that perhaps he's no longer with us, possibly in every sense.
That is sad news one way or the other. He was a great community member when he was around.

For those interested, we do hold monthly community virtual sessions. These meetings are not all about our boats, but our lives, and the world we live inhabit and marina fees, insurance don't get me started! If you need support or an ear to hear you, we are here to support the community and boats we love.

This is the first I have heard of this, is it through this site, and if so where do I find the link?

Look for an announcement of the Zoom date and time at the top of the main splash page, a week or three before hand.
I look forward to seeing you!

I didn't know this...can NorCal owners get an invite? I'd definitely be interested!

The virtual meetings are open to all the only stipulation is you have to bring your own adult beverage.

Just watched your video Christian and I'm filled with sorrow for what you, your wife and your neighbors had to go through. Your way of looking at things, despite all of it, will stay with me as long as I live. Take care my friend and keep finding relief in what sometimes may cause despair.

A bit distracted at the moment, but thanks for all the personal notes, most of which I have not been able to keep up with.

Cheers,
Christian

Hello Christian; Very sorry for you and your wife. Six years ago my property was lost to the Camp Fire and I am finally emerging from that obsession. One of the best things I did while I was evacuated was create detailed list of personal property that included age, replacement cost, like-kind model, etc. When I was allowed back, the insurance adjuster and I did an 8 hour survey (2 houses, Shop on 80 acres). He used my list to rationalize hitting the limits. Later that insurance file became instrumental in the settlement with PGE...as an independent source. I by the way was listed as "missing" for two weeks until the Sheriff finally called. We were in the best investment I every made, our RV. It took us weeks to settle with the insurance company. It took 8 months for FEMA to clear my property. It was free except for the demolition portion of your homeowner's insurance. Later the County did a similar thing for tree removals. Many will go through stages of grief...they initially are determined to rebuild which allows them 20% for replacement and 10% for code upgrades...but once they realize it will be like a war zone for the next five years, many move on and often are better for it. The community will take on a completely different personality. You should examine 1033 exchanges which offers a method of transferring cost basis. Some of this disappeared because of the recent Wildfire Tax relief bill but I will remind you that it is dated to 2026 or so? There is an attorney (very expensive) who has written some good articles on fires; Rob Wood of San Francisco. I talked with a very helpful attorney out of LA as well. The lawyers etc will be pushing the fault of these fires to government and public utilities because this opens up the gates to Mass tort inverse condemnation claims. I signed up initially and later fired my attorneys (although they still had claim to that point)...basically for filling out a form and writing a tear jerk narrative. If you have watched the documentaries on the Camp Fire, they do not capture some of the saddest elements...the displaced homelessness, the frustrating waiting, the destruction of community. I have lived a life that has had PTSD events and was somewhat prideful of my resilience to these traumas...what I wasn't prepared for was the prolonged human suffering afterwards and I struggled with anxiety because I could not fix all these people problems. COVID isolation actually gave me the space I needed. Christian, you are much wiser and accomplished than I will ever be but should you need any assistance in your next journey please reach out. If not to me than this wonderful community.

From this article it appears that that Santa Monica did escape direct damage. It's right next door, though. I do not know Glyyn's address, just the locale.
5 structures destroyed in SM. Not a lot unless it was yours.

A populated thread but I'd say this: Christian is tough as nails. He has been through it. Adversity is like a warm blanket. He will face this head on. For added strength Tracy is his equal. I spent only a few hours with him to recognize toughness. He will be good to go in no time. That's my 2 cents.

Oh no. When I joined this forum, he invited me to his home, and I met his wife Marilyn, this just after I retired and was consulting in Marina del Rey. I also met the pup he was training at the time. Glyn was very helpful to me as I maneuvered the care of my first (and so far, only) boat. I lost touch when I moved my boat to Dana Point several years ago (2018?). And, I have been unable to contact him recently as well. I didn't know he had sold his boat. Another reason to stay in touch with people.
Late to this thread. Sorry about the house, Christian. That sucks. For those wondering about Glyn, I just spoke to him and Marilyn and they are very much alive and well.
