    Two more sailors!

Stan, Funny you ask. I showed the boat a couple of weeks back and the broker called today with an offer on the E38. We have countered and are playing that game now. The decision to sell was not an easy one. To keep it simple I'm going to cut-n-paste some of the email to Loren.... We only...

    Two more sailors!

Hello All, I haven't been around much, been a bit busy with work, life, etc. The E38 is up for sale, Loren shot me an email asking how I was doing and so I figured I'd share. Gabriel and Michael, born 1/9 at 12:30am. Just to add to the mayhem of sailing with our two year old daughter...

Doing some prop pitch numbers ...

Yes, you described it better than I did, but thats exactly what I meant. My 5432 will run to the governor on flat water without any problem so I believe the prop to be underpitched. I'll be turning the screws on it next time it comes out. RT

    New Found Metals

I've had them in my hands at the Boatshow, almost pulled the trigger but my ports are still working. I helped a friend install 7 of them in a Hatteras pretty much the same way as shown in that link. The install was pretty straightforward if not time consuming. NFM appears to be a very high...

Doing some prop pitch numbers ...

I should also add that the "method" described above is supposed to work as it allows tuning of the prop to a specific hull. Not all hulls are identical, loaded the same, the engines may or may not be in the same condition, etc. Basically the differences can be factored in. That makes sense to...

Doing some prop pitch numbers ...

Limited experience with this but this is what I've been told: With the throttle wide open in dead flat water the engine should not be able to reach its top governed RPM. The prop should effectively load the engine and act as a "governor". I was told to pitch the prop so that the engine almost...

Living on the boat and also take some paying guests?

In the US, that syndrome is known as "three-foot-itis", the desire to own a boat just a bit bigger than what you have. Doesn't always work though, I recommend cutting to the chase and just getting what you really want. I went from a 22ft to a 38ft. Very overwhelmed at first but it worked out...

Living on the boat and also take some paying guests?

People on vacation and paying you to sail them about will want to be catered to and pampered. I have have met two couples that used to do this in the BVI. Both boats were 60+ft. One from each couple was a gourmet chef, at least one was a scuba diver and they held captains licenses. Paying...

Cutter stay strut through anchor locker ?

I think that Keith has a point. I'm assuming that in the pic I'm looking at a piece of angle aluminum in the corner of the underside of the deck and the chainlocker bulkhead? If so, I will tell you that on my E381 the chainplates for the shrouds do not pull in a straight line on two of them...

    '83 Ericson 381 for sale

I appreciate the comments, I enjoy the boat and the community here. We had a terrible season here in RI, little wind and fickle weather. Finally got out today and sailed for 6 hours. Made me remember why I love the E381, it sails so well when the conditions are right. That said, just because...

    '83 Ericson 381 for sale

Well, after discussing it with the broker, comparing the comp's, etc. he suggested lowering the price. Funny, since he priced the boat initially! I've known him for a long time, I think he was just trying to be as optimistic as possible for me. That said, I have reduced the asking price to...

Air Conditioning on 32-200? Ideas sought...

I'm not sure you could insure a boat with an installation like that here in the US. I'm not particularly safety nazi oriented but mounting a terrestrial generator belowdecks seems a bit extreme/unwise. I'm betting its also very loud. I've taken grief from simply storing my Honda Eu2000 genny...

    Recommendation for Autopilots

Yes, actually my boat is an E381. I can see how it would have been very simple for the factory to make room when they laid the hull up. A shorter rudder tube and a spacer is all that would be needed. That said, the modification to the quadrant is easy. A couple of hours to fab up the parts...

    Recommendation for Autopilots

Sounds good, I assume you will include shipping yours to the East Coast? They can take the E38 back with them! :) RT

    Recommendation for Autopilots

Don't take my response as "in your face" or anything like that. I wish there was an easier solution in my case. I like your solution, if it works likely it will be copied. E38's are a pain in the rump, period. RT
