    Pressure salt water ?

Since we now live off mostly homemade water (reverse osmosis) we're seriously discussing having a pressurized salt water system for pre-washing dishes and to feed the electric head and so on. We got a washdown pump that we expected to install for just washing mud off the anchor but now we're...

Made it to Cabo San Lucas

Thx. Thanks for the advice. We do need to get to La Paz because that's where our nephew will join us for a few weeks. It is also where we hope to get the gooseneck fixed. Sailing under just jib is fine but we have this other nice sail that feels neglected by now :egrin: We'll probably...

Made it to Cabo San Lucas

True, but the transient dock wanted $120USD/night and had no room. No idea why the larger marina is so much less  This place is like a cross between Disneyland and Hooters on steroids but we're enjoying our short stay. The boat yard chandler is amazingly unfullfilling so for a...

Made it to Cabo San Lucas

Hi Brian and Dawn, Just checked out your blog :egrin: We'll stay in Cabvo San Lucas 3-4 more days. Want to get a Costco run in while here to resupply batteries and night provisions (Cliff bars and bags of M&Ms and the like). We also confirmed that the fishermen down the coast really...

Made it to Cabo San Lucas

Another vigorous sail but we're now in Cabo San Lucas since Friday night. We hadn't planned to stop here because of all the negative reviews but we were beat and it is a hopping place that's actually kind of fun even at $1.60 per foot per night ! I did find out that when running before the...

    sail questions

Welcome to the Forum Mike. I know nothing about Precision sails. I do know that we were very very happy with the sails we bought from Lee Sails at a price that was very reasonable. Lee manufactures sails which might not be as romantic as one would imagine a sail loft should be but the...

Part of what makes this such a great site ...

NONONONO ! The guys from Seatek were great. On schedule and within budget and quite competent. -Sven

7.4 knots under 110% jib only, 45° off the wind

We did find out that the balance is incredibly delicate in light winds. When we were ghosting into Bahia Santa Magdalena after midnight I disengaged Yves (the Cape Horn) to hand steer. I kept losing the sweet spot whereas Yves with his 100% concentration had done a much better job. Supports...

Part of what makes this such a great site ...

We're still limping south under just jib. The last few day were an exception where we had to motor to get out of some bad spots but otherwise it is working out great with the main down. I have a lead to a lead for a good SS fabricator in La Paz and hope that works out. I still worry that...

Part of what makes this such a great site ...

Just a boatline with a cedar plug. The guy (a fishing expert at WM ?) who put it together said that it only needed to be 30-40 feet long but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the problem; it's too close to the boat ? -Sven

Glad someone is reading it :egrin: We actually use the blog to remind ourselves too of what we've experienced. This isn't a cushy life but it sure is enjoyable even when things go wrong. -Sven

Part of what makes this such a great site ...

... when we ran into the new gooseneck problem we were more than a little stumped, being impossibly far from any place where we could get it fixed. A quick note to Jeffersön Asbury via satphone e-mail asking him to post the question here. Done ! Once we got connectivity I could start...

    E-39B Gooseneck help needed!

Thanks for the replies. On a cellular connection in Turtle Bay so I'll keep this brief :egrin: I wonder what the gooseneck is made out of ? Cast SS or plated bronze ? Since the problem is that it is (vertically) too short in the new configuration I think the easiest fix would be to weld...

Holding Tank: How do I empty it and other questions?

You would most likely pump it through a hose at or below the water line. Look for a y-valve somewhere in the plumbing and trace from there (if possible). -Sven

    Solar or AGM battery problem

The tiller Pilot acts as a replacement for the wind-vane on the Cape Horn when you want to steer a compass course rather than a wind relative one. The Cape Horn still supplies the power needed to turn the quadrant. The combination of the two won't solve your "cheap" problem, unfortunately...
