Re: Removing fiberglass pan to gain better access to bilge...
I have a 1976 E39 with a fiberglass pan floor for the cabin sole, covered over with teak&holly ply. My question to anyone is have you ever cut open your fiberglass pan so as to get better access to the bilge area? Right now, the...
As far as I could tell, there really wasn't any access to the bilge through the cockpit sole, except just aft of the v-berth. There is a real bilge under the sole, right ?
I also don't remember seeing any manual bilge pump mounted in the cockpit sole or in the lazarettes.
There must be a...
My 1984 Ericson 38 has Wilcox Hi Cap bilge and shower sump pumps. They no longer work because I think their impellers are to stiff and old. Unfortunately, Wilcox no longer makes this pump or the replacement parts. Has anyone found a suitable equivalent replacement pump or equivalent impeller...
After a hard sail a couple nights ago, I found about a half inch of water wandering around the bilge sections. We had been sailing a couple of hours with the full main and 135, in about 15 kts of breeze. Lots of time at 8 knots on the speed guage, and the stern wave up a foot on the transome...
Is this crazy? (New boater here - simply stying to stay afloat!)
On my E28 (1988), I'd like to have an emergency bilge pump that I could leave on standby when I'm not on the boat.
I have a manual pump in the main bilge that's controlled at the breaker panel.
I have a separate and isolated...
I have a '73 E27 that presently has one 12V, 240 gph pump and would like to add a secondary pump as back-up. I'd like a 2000+ gph pump and would like to know what other owners have configured.
I don't want to use the engine's waterpump diverted from raw water and I don't want to power an...
Have bilge wood support rot problem under sole flooring in bilge area between nav table and stove of E35-2.
Does anyone experience replacing this support?
Does anyone know purpose of this support? Does it give support to sole flooring or does it give support to hull and keel?
We own a 1987 E34. Until a recent outing with seven people in the cockpit (some in the 250 lb + range), our bilges were realtively clean (at least you could see the bottom of the bilge when water was present). As we were motoring back from the sail, I noticed that the stern was very low with...
I have a blockage in my main bilge discharge hose. I ran water from both ends and it discharges, yet the bilge pump doesn't seem to quite get the water to the thru hole. I changed the pump, no change. I thought pulling another hose through would work, but I can't seem to move it aft of the...
I bought my 1971 Ericson a year ago and was supprised at how deep the bilge is. (all the way to the bottom of the aft portion of the keel) There is a float activated pump way down there, and I don't get much water, but it is almost impossible to keep clean. It also seems a little scary to...
I've read a lot lately about bilge pump configurations and recommendations for change.
On my 1988 E28 I have a manual/automatic shower drain electric pump in a shallow well with a float switch, and a hand-operated manual (cockpit actuated) and separate electric pump (manual only from the...
I know this topic has been raised dozens of times on various different discussion boards and mail lists, but I never felt satisfied with the conflicting information I received. I now have a maintenance question about my '84 E-38 so I'm hoping to get some answers from 80's vintage Ericson...
