Have you seen or heard of anyone converting to saildrive on an E35ii (or similar)? I don't think it would make sense on the mid-engine/under dinette models since the keel would be in the way. However, I have an aft-engine/under companionway model...
It seems that most people that have sail...
I own E35ii hull#541, currently "Rocinante" .....wondering if anyone out there has any info about her past? Got her out of Vermont. Previous owners had her for some years on stands in their front yard. Not sure where she was last in the water. (The trip to get her was quite an adventure...
Hi all,
My E35-II has the companionway mounted A4 engine (3/4" shaft). I took the shaft/coupling to a local prop shop for a once over and have been told it needs replacing. Being a boat the shaft replacement price came in higher than I expected but the kicker is that they are wanting to...
I was breaking ice scrapers this weekend on the frozen snow that cover our boat before I was able to assemble the winter cover. As I was getting warm again sitting in my truck, I noticed the hull deflected from the support on the forward port side.
Is there a specific location for the a pads...
While this has been stated over and over, there is nothing sweeter than racing experience hammering this point home. As some of you know, I've been frustrated with Sirius' (my refitted 1979 E35-II) performance racing around the buoys for the last several year which has forced (:egrin:) me to...
After several years of neglect I finally did it - I moved our Ericson to where I can keep an eye on her - right beside our home. We're moving to Temecula, and we had been keeping our 35-II on a mooring in Newport Beach where it had become an increasingly notorious eyesore after our son was...
All:
I have been racing my 1979 Ericson 35-II (Sirius) on Lake Michigan for a few years now with mixed results (2nd place in double handed Queens Cup this year, 2nd Waukegan to Montrose, 1st Montrose to Waukegan, but lousy finishes in buoy races 4-5th place out of 5 boats). I am totally...
My e35-II bow chain plate failed this weekend (in light air therefore spar still up - lucky). Does any one know where I can purchase a replacement bow chain plate? Is it interchangeable with e35-III?
This has probably been discussed before, but I'll ask it anyway:
Any E35II owners ever removed their chainplates, and if so how much surgery was involved?
Several years ago, I gained access to the port chainplate to repair the rotted bulkhead. That involved a complete dismantling of the...
Well.... the Dockfather and I were sittin round on a cold day havin an Ale and took a good look at the Weenie 20LB Danforth Anchor and Pathetic Factory Light Duty Roller on the Boat  Figured its time for a Real OffShore Anchor and Roller. Like the 35LB CQR or Delta Plow with Custom Roller...
I'm in process of scoping out an S1 Wheelpilot install later this season, and plan to include the dreaded 'rudder sensor' feature when I begin the project.
I hate to admit this, but I don't see an easy way to gain suitable access to the quadrant. How does anyone larger than the average six...
Well....now that the V-Berth and Cabin Hatch are finished :)
It's time to start the Companionway Hatch rebuild.
Has anyone completed this project  Sure would like some pics.
Happy Hatches :egrin: :egrin:
I'm thinking of adding a bimini this season - to shade our noggins from all that intense Pacific Northwest Sunshine:rolleyes:
Have any E35-2 owners with stock mainsheet/traveler/boom arrangement successfully installed a bimini? If so, how large a bimini did you manage? Any installation...
Here it is....the Design Drawings for an E35II Fuel Tank Replacement :nerd:
The footprint is the same as the Original and increases the height by 6".
This provides an increased 15ga of capacity to a 37ga total.
The construction is 3/16" welded aluminum. The fill is moved from the Cockpit...
Here is the installation of a new 14ga Holding Tank for the E35II.
The Tank is a Ronco (www.ronco-plastics.net) Model 245 with Access Port.
The dimensions are 24.5"L X 16.5"W X 9.125"H and is the largest tank I could
fit in the Salon Setee Locker incuding the 1.5" Hoses.
The Access Port...
Can anyone explain in simple terms the difference between these three 35's. I'm most likely going to become the new owner of a E35 by the 1st of October. I'm sure I'll probably be asking a lot more questions then.
Hi all
Has anyone got a picture they can post of the hot section
of and E-35-II...the one with the engine located under the
setee in the centre of the salon?
The elbow on my set up comes up so close to the botom of the seat that the heat is burning the wood. I have to run with the cover...
Here is the stupid question of the day...
I know I do not have the "GRID" on my model...but,
Does my vessel have "stringers" and where are they located?
I have searched all around the hull and find nothing that I would consider a "stringer."
I want to find these elusive "stringers," (if...
I am presently restoring/refitting a 78 35MKII. I have two (2) rudders available for install. One is the 70's trapezoid-shaped type from a 70 35MKII. The other is the newer hawkbill- shaped type with slightly less surface area. It came un-installed with my boat.
I would appreciate...
Enjoyed reading about Nicki's purchase and planned sail of his E-35II.....
Nicki, and to all other's owning an E35II.....take a look at your boat's exhaust system. I've just purchased and installed a new Yanmar engine due to sea water entering my engine block through the exhaust system...
Looking to buy a used or new staysail for my E35II. Anyone aware of any sails that will work for this purpose, or a loft where I might pick one up...
thanks...

Here are some pics on the Engine Stringer progress on the Beta 902
Repower. This is (4) layers of Epoxy / 23oz double bias fabric.
(4) more layers to go for 3/8" to 1/2" structural thickness :p
The engine mounts will be fastened to 3/8" x 3"x 22" SS Bar Stock.
The Bar Stock will be...
Well... here is the update on the Repower Blues.
Had a local diesel rebuilder tear the ole 90' Universal M4-30 down for an
estimate and what do you think we found ? The PO overcranked it with
the raw water valve open a few to many times and sea water had entered
the crankcase. The guts are...
Well....it's that time again ! Gotta rewire and install new AC/DC panels for
the ole 74' E35-II. I have seen various panel arrangements and I am looking
at moving the whole gang to the NAV Station locker area
My connected load requires (4) AC Breakers + 30A Main and 20 +/- DC...
Are wood stringers the best alternative to replaceing the rusted steel
engine bed in the E35-II ?
The current bed is an angle iron sled glassed in to the hull with some
sort of sound insulation underneath. The legs are going...GONE!
The BEST engine bed rebuild found so...
Thank you all for helping me with a successful and safe engine removal.
I used the Fly Girl Method (good one Leighton :D )
Ran the main halyard to the topping lift. Now you have a crane arm.
Used an 8' 4x4 strapped to the boom for the first move off the mounts
Slid the engine on a piece of...
Well...looks like the ole Universal 4-30 needs an overhaul :boohoo:
The engine is located in the salon.
I need some advise on the removal. Saw a post a while back with pictures
on a wisker pole hoist stringer arrangement...can't seem to find it.
As anyone has done this replacement, would...
Here is progress on fuel tank replacement for the 74' 35II.
Went with 3/16 welded alluminum and electronic (Centroid) fuel sender.
The new tank fit easily in to the original footprint with an additional 18 GA.
I just increased the height by 10" and went from 22GA to 40GA.
Hope this helps...
I recently purchased a new boat and my 1977 Ericson 35 is foor sale. In the last three years I've done the following:
New full batten main and jib (neill pryde)
New Universal Diesel - (15 hours)
New AC and DC wiring with new distribution panels and GFCI outlets
660 amp hours of battery...
