Switched my bilge pump out, Ericson 32-2 and now my instrument panel (bilge, cabin lights, master switch, blower etc) no longer works. What the heck happened? It was two wires, snip snip, splice splice, now nothing works...help?
The appearance of the forward hatch on my boat was looking a bit tired. Even though the varnish gets refresher coats, I am always bummed at how quickly the gloss fades and if left alone too long, you're looking at stripping back to bare and starting over. I wanted to take the hatch off and...
I was out chipping the ice out of the cockpit drains today ad took the time to look down the length of the boom (with no sail on it) and I noticed that it has a bend right where the spring loaded vang connects, it seems to bend to port about 1" (the very end of the boom is deflected about 1"...
Thought i would pass this along. I had my boat hauled for annual maint about three months ago and was disheartened by the barnacle growth on the prop. I don't like the idea of painting a prop, corrosion and such. So I was asking the yard what they've heard of to help. One of the dock...
I've attached 4 images of my pedestal.
Two show the broken linkage for the shifter.
Two show a shew in the meeting of the upper bowl and mid base of the pedestal. There are only 3 of the 4 long bolts holding the bowl in place.
I'm wondering if anyone has seen this linkage failure before and...
I recently purchased a 1973 E25 that I am working to bring back up to respectable condition. One of the issues is replacement of the aft bulkheads where the chain plates attach. The port was easy to remove and use for a pattern. However, it appears the only way to replace the other is to cut it...
Hello to all;
I have purchased a 1990 E28 that I will be bringing home to Canada at the end of May. My first sail on the boat will be from Waukegan Illinois to Penetanguishene Ontario, 7 - 10 days on the boat with a crew of 3 guys and as few stops as possible. Obviously, we want the toilet to...
I am a new E32-3 owner. My boat is overall in excellent shape. There are some issues that the passage of time has brought about. I would appreciate advice as to the following issues:
1. Leaking side ports. The ports on the aft of the cabin show evidence of leaks in the past. After 25...
I thought about hijacking my thread about livability, since it's all about the same boat, but figured a thread in Maintenance was more appropriate. I'm looking at a 77 E35-II that I started off looking at because it was local, even though I didn't want that particular boat. It's insanely...
You'd think we'd have enough lists with just the surveyor's recommendations and our own upgrades lists ! However, that's actually the reason for asking ... I worry that while we try to work off items on our lists (between times of actually sailing) we might neglect routine maintenance chores...
I searched for this topic but didn't find data, probably searched for the wrong terminology. Anyway...
Routine maintenance on my 35-3? Any input would be very helpfull. I am not sure what to lube, nor what product/s to use. Thanks.
I've been reading some good threads on the rudder bearing and bushing maintenance that some of you have done. It helped me a lot when I dropped the rudder yesterday in the yard to clear the way for the prop shaft to be removed. We dropped it before putting the stands in place, and only had to...
Time for some topsides maintenance. The plan is to use some aggressive rubbing compound on the non skid and then treat w/ Woody Wax or perhaps Future.
Plan A involves a power washer, hand scrub brush w/ a compound slurry and a rinse w/ soap and water before the final treatment. This should...
I thought it might be interesting to ask everybody what the most useful tip they ever garnered from this site.
The amount of information brought to us by our friendly Administrator's efforts is voluminous.
So what little tidbit has made you have an Ah Ha moment?

Hi All,
The valves on our Princess stove are becoming problematic (1986 E35). Most of the time they work just fine, then all of a sudden you can't turn them at all - often when the burner is on - my wife will call me to fix it & I sometimes have to play with it for 2 or 3 minutes to get it...
I can probably intuit the answer but can someone tell me the easiest way to get at the quadrant and cables/sheaves etc. just for inspection, lubrication and maybe adjustment in an E35III. I've spent some quality time in the cockpit locker removing the diaphragm pump and installing a variable...
I am in the process of purchasing a one-owner 1988 E-28 that appears to have been well maintained with a few notable exceptions.

My E27 is in need of recaulking the deck plates. I'll probably use 4200 to bed them.
My question - Can I "simply" remove one cable at a time, and be OK let with the other 5 cables carrying the load? If possible, I intend to do these one-by-one, which is about all my schedule can handle...
Hello All,
If you have followed any of my posts you will know that I have had my share of issues this season with my "new" E38. Last Sunday my wife and I were out for a short cruise. Motoring out of the harbor something made a metallic shrieking, fairly loud for a few seconds. Then it was...
On my E38-200 I want to lubricate and inspect the chain and linkage to the steering quadrant. Here's a picture of my pedestal. Anyone know how to remove the compass?
Hello All-
I've been spending a lot of time inside the cockpit locker and lazarette while replacing my badly cracked cockpit hoses. That project is done, but before I throw all my docklines, fenders, etc back in there, I want to lubricate and adjust the steering system, which is a little...
I was cleaning & lubing my winches ( First time) yesterday. The big boy #22 was easy to take apart, it has the plate with opposing holes on top. It unscrewed easily and drom removal was also easy.
The #18 does not have the holes, but the op guide indicates it has a snap ring around the...
Has anyone had experience with the upkeep of Awlgrip? The hull was done last year by the yard, and I want to keep it shiny! What should I wash it down with?

I need to service the water seals on the four portals on my Ericson 32. Is anyone aware of a schematic or procedures for disassembling and repairing 18-year-old portal seals?
Thanks, Chip

M-25 Universal Alternator Bracket Failure
M-25 Universal Alternator Bracket

I have a loose bolt at the end of the boom, securing the mainsheet and topping lift to the boom. I tried to remove the end cap screws to tighten, and the screws sheared off.
Is the just a cap that you can just pop off, if I drill out the screws?
Or is it something much more sinister???
I see where there is a grease fitting on the rudder post.
What is the recommended maintenance here?
Are there additional fittings not visible that need attention?
My 1988 E28 has two relatively new dual purpose batteries.
I've been reading about on-board chargers, such as the Guest 2614. Their literature implies longer battery life with full time 110V charging.
Any thoughts?
We have a Universal 25XP.
The manual does not describe the service interval for valve adjustment or for service of the fuel injection system.
I find nothing on these subjects in Nigel Calder except for the advice "if it aint broke, don't fix it".
I asked the maintenance contractor...
