Help please from Butyl Tape experts on rebedding

hi, I have read the various posts on rebedding deck fittings with butyl tape. I very carefully rebedded several stanchions with butyl tape--cleaned the area thoroughly, placed a 1/16" base of butyl on the deck under the stanchion base, wrapped each of the bolts in butyl tape "worms", etc. A...

    Butyl tape revisited...

I removed and rebedded with butyl tape one of my portlights that was leaking. After trimming the butyl that squeezed out between the frame and cabin I was wondering if any other type of sealant needs to be applied around that edge.

Bedding Deck Hardware With Butyl Tape

Over the years, especially in the last few spring weeks, via PM's/email, I have been asked how I bed deck hardware with butyl tape. I officially apologize for being so slow with completed photo examples. I have been meaning to do this but just did not have the time to complete it. Late Sat...

    Teflon tape or teflon paste?

When replacing fuel tank fittings is it best to use teflon tape or teflon paste thread sealant, or does it matter? Or is teflon even the right thing to use in this application?

    Carbon protective tape?

Hey all, I'm looking for some carbon stuff that seems to be a sticky-back stuff that you put on spots in the cockpit that get rub from lines. Like on the corner of the bulkhead where you'd pull on something with a cam cleat that would rub if you had a low angle on it. Anybody know of which I...

    Painter Tape Marks on Fiberglass

Alright... finally have made my first rookie mistake with our new boat. I knew it would come at some time! We have been sanding and varnishing and put some tape on that we left on just 1 day too long... We now have remnants of the sticky painters tape on the fiberglass around our woodwork...

    Newbie Sailing Question: Luff Tape

hi there Went to the marina today with the plan of hoisting the sail up the Harken furler on my boat. My question is the luff has two ropes sewn into it and the foil on the furler has to slots which i assume accept both of these small ropes? I am having a bear of a time getting them started...

    Tuck Tape stains on gelcoat

Hi There, I was using red tuck tape to hold up the 6 mill poly skirt around my boat while painting the bottom. The residue left was a nightmare to get off and took me two 8 hr days but i finally removed all...but now i have a bit of pink staining that looks pretty bad. I need some...

    Luff tape sizes?

Hi all, Can someone clarify luff tape terminology for me. I have older Furlex furler and in the users manual indicates that slots in the furler foil are Ø6 mm (that's a zero with a slash through it followed by 6mm). The notes recommend a max Ø5mm luffrope/lufftape (max Ø4 mm "hard line")...
