E32-2 Dripless stuffing box/shaft log size

Has anybody installed a PSS dripless stuffing box an 1974 E32-200? Access to the shaft log is awful at best, and my calipers measure close to 1 5/8" for the shaft log size.

Unfortunately that's directly in between the prescribed PSS sizes of 1-1/2" and 1-3/4"... curious if anybody has ordered one in the past and what size worked best for them.

Right, the classic 1974 32-2. In the confusing world of Ericson model names, the E32-200 is the mid 1980s aft-head redesign of the mid-80s Ericson 32-3, which was the upgrade, or regrade, of the famous Bruce King 32-2.

Fraser & Claudia, You need the PSS 1 1/2" to 1 5/8" stern tube Type A seal. I just bought the maintenance kit for mine and I have the same size stern tube and a 1" shaft. They will send a spacer to fit as they don't make the bellows in 1/8" increments. That's how mine is and the replacement bellows came the same way.

Hey! Just wanted to say thanks for the help. Sliding back into the cockpit locker and trying to get calipers onto the stern tube for a reliable measurement was nearly impossible. Anyways ordered the 1- 1/2" PSS... pressed the coupling off and managed to get the new PSS in place. Bilge is dry as a bone now! Thanks again for the advice!

Hahaha Thanks, I keep thinking the 32-2 and 32-200 are the same thing... hard to remember which boat I own!

After two days spent on my side, I managed to get the old coupling pressed off using two sets of fine thread 3/8" bolts and nuts. Plenty of bruises and cuts in the process, but finally managed to get it off. Threw it through a friend lathe, primed and painted and she went back together nicely. Hard to believe it's the same coupling. The shallow bilge of my the Ericson 32 is finally dry!

Great job ! Can't believe it's the same coupler. I am in the process of replacing coupler and shaft , getting mine off was a real bear. I feel your pain as I hurt for days after that exercise in contortion.

I changed to a split coupler about a decade ago upon advice from our mechanic. It's good that you were able to restore your original.
