Just thought I would pass along a note on what the Raymarine Rudder reference actually is. I am in the process of testing a unit that I have before selling it on EBay. The unit is a 5k ohm 2% linear pot made by Bourns. The part number is 6639s BKS502 and the Bourns site askes that you call them for more information on the pot. The pot has a long shaft with a locating face as well as a through drilled hole. The hole takes a roll pin from the arm.
There are 4 wires in the reference. The outer cable sheild, red and green for the fixed connections to the pot and blue for the wiper. The pot does not have any stops so it can turn theough 360 degrees. The max angle (per Raymarine) is 60 degrees and is enforced by the plastic housing.
Of the 2 references that I have here are the resistances
stop 1 3.2K 3.63K (relaxed with internal spring pulling arm to stop)
midpoint 2.35K 2.64K
stop 2 1.53K 1.77K
This gives about 1.7k of travel.
In a fix one could just get a 5 k pot and jury rig a reference....
Regards
