Anyone know what was under the cover on the starboard side combing next to the helm and behind the pocket?

On our '86 E35-3 that's right over the Gusher manual bilge pump. There might be some wires and hoses back there. A look inside ours:

So the boat was put in the water last week and now the cap shrouds are very loose and they seem to be extended about as much as possible. The turnbuckles show that they have been unscrewed by the wear on the threads but I cannot imagine why they would be loosened for winter storage or for haul in. The cap shrouds were not so lose when on the cradle but I don't remember where the turnbuckles were adjusted then.
Any ideas?

They sometimes have to loosen the cap shrouds and take off the backstay to fit on some smaller travel lifts. Ask the boat yard guys. They also sometimes will loosen them a lot to signal to you that they have messed with them and that they need attention before you sail.

Did they move the engine controls for easier access?

Hot/cold hose bibs for an exterior shower or wash down sprayer?

Captain's log: started replacing portlights today, found one very stubborn bolt and heading back tomorrow with Dremel with cutting wheel. Replacing 6 portlights and got a great deal on Mauripro

Suggest you start a new thread now that the upgrading begins. Others will want to follow job by job, usually by searching. Thread titles matter.

Often it works to add to an existing thread on the same topic, which keeps the info together for the next guy and bumps the thread to "current."

Very popular topics are denoted 'master thread." list here: https://ericsonyachts.org/ie/threads/master-threads-recurring-topics.19732/

The goal is just to organize the infinite information here so we can all find it again.
