I'm soon going to undertake some modifications to my galley and I wanted thoughts or idea before I started.
1) I just got a big 3-burner force 10 propane stove to replace the missing stove (which I'm guessing was originally alcohol). I'm probably building a propane locker in the stern locker...
I have one port side in the cockpit of my E27. I have emptied out the PO debris, going to wash off grime and potentially use this hatched storage area.
Problem is...my arms are fairly short! the lazarette goes all the way, way down to where I removed the (decrepit) Atomic 4....how do you keep...
Hi all,
I've just purchased a 1984 28+ and live in the Northeast. I'm interested in saving some $$ over the winters by investing in a custom canvas cover for winter storage, and am wondering if anyone out there happens to have a pattern/design for such a cover (or where I might find one)...
Like most sailors we mainly use the quarter berth in our 35-3 for storage. But piling duffel bags, cockpit cushions, etc. in there is messy and inefficient. Has anyone developed ideas for modifications to make better use of this space for storage? I don't want to permanently loose the ability to...
I am looking for a trailer for a 1968 Ericson 30'. I am interested in either a purchase or rental if possible. I plan on restoring the the boat over the winter in Vermont and putting it back in the water next year in Rhode Island. I also would be willing to trade storage space in my commercial...
Does anyone know of a company that makes winter storage covers for an E27? I plan on doing some deck work next year and would like to protect the investment from the Northern Minnesota winters. Thanks:confused:
I was curious if there would there be any advantage to removing my instruments for the winter months. We get some fairly cold winters up here in Michigan. I was most concerned with the compass. Will the cold weather affect this instrument in anyway?
Thanks,
Brian

Lots (!) of new storage ideas from this project update on Wally's fine web site.
I forsee doing something similar in several places on our own boat...
Cheers,

Although I could add a full freezer to my galley since it needs to be completely rebuilt, the cost, the weight, and the space are making me want another option.
I would like to be able to eat proper meat stored for more than just the few days a fridge would give.
Are the enclosed cold...
Aloha,
My E27 is in Havre de Grace, MD, and I am trying to make a decision about storage. This is my first winter with the boat, (it was out last winter before I bought it). I had a rough summer due to a bad infection in my hand, and was never able to take boat out on the water. She has been...
I'm going to pull the E23 out of the water for winter storage; I'm leaving the mast up; should any of the shrouds, backstay, etc be lossen because of the cold weather; also I need to remember how to get the adjustment back to its previous location; any comments would be helpful.

The forward storage compartments over the v berth of my E23 are backed with an unattractive sticky material. From reading the original brochure it seems this sticky material likely held foam-backed naugahyde trim. It appears sometime over the last ~30 years this trim was pulled out. If I'm...
A question for cruisers:
As I rebuild my interior, I intend to move the quarter berth aft slightly. The intention is to build an access hatch to allow some privacy, darkness, and less noise in there.
Forward of the berth, I think there would be room for a hanging area for wet clothing -...
I have discovered that the food storage cupboard on my E30+ (the cupboard just aft of the refrigerator opening, beside the galley sink, next to the opening for the garbage disposal on some models) gets quite wet. This seems to happen only after I've hosed down the deck (haven't noticed it after...

This was our major "find" at the recent Strictly Sail" show in Oakland, CA.
I just coiled my whole 50' 30 amp shore power cord inside, except for the two ends.
Paid $30. for it at the show (including California tax).
Rather useful, really....
Up 'til...
Hi Everyone,
We really like our 35/3. She sails well, cockpit is great, inside feels like a wooden boat, lots of character. But I have to admit we are quite frustrated with the lack of storage space on board. Our old C&C 27 had far more storage space than the 35 has. What's difficult is...
Hello All,
We are keeping our '83 E38 in the water over the winter. The question is what do we do with the cockpit drains that empty through the thru-hull underwater? I understand keeping the cockpit covered to minimize water/freezing. The two above waterline drains are not my concern. I am...
The 35-III (and maybe some other models?) has dedicated trash storage via a pass-through from the galley to the lazarette. We decided to try putting it into use finally yesterday, but ended up scratching our heads wondering how to put a trash bag in the spot where it should go. There are no...
This is a shot of half of the aft bedroom locker. I purchased hanging shelves made out of cloth, the kind one might use for sweaters and the like. ( I think these are from K Mart (Martha Stewart). The shelves hold much more than the hangers would and I still have half a locker to hang up...
Hi
Ok bought a hard walker bay like 8 foot dinghy for my E27. I have it upside down on the deck right now. I am looking for input on how others carry, tow, launch etc... without breaking their backs preferably. It is pretty awkward, but i do not really favour the idea of towing it all of...
My Ericson 38 is on the hard at a sailboat broker outside Detroit for the winter, being shown for sale. What is new to me is that this will be the first winter that the boat has been stored outside, or with the mast up.
I will be having the boat shrink wrapped at the end of November, but...
I am in the process of updating our old girl. Repaintiing the insides of these little storage areas of the teak combings on the port and starboard sides of the cockpit is on the list. Did these ever have a way of draining water ?I've had to sponge it out after washing her down. Anyone out there...
I have a 1976 Ericson 36C and want to have two 20lb propane tanks on the boat. I am thinking about buying a premade fiberglass storage locker that holds the two tanks and putting it in the place of the teak cooler/console box in the cockpit. I would probably try to skin the outside with teak and...

I will be having my E29 set up for winter storage. Can I safely leave the mast and Harken Roller Furling up during storage. The yard said the mast should be untepped or it may cause gelcoat damage (Stress). But I see many sailboats stored for winter with the mast up. The cost take it down and...
