e 35 portlight replacement

I am looking to replace the portlights on my 1970 E35 2 was wondering if anyone has any... or knows of a source that reproduces the originals? I have considered replacing all with lewmar standard stuff but I am not so sure about the 4 that are odd shaped. Any ideas or vendors would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, seanflinn (Good Reward) Hull#124

Bomon(not to be confused with Bomar) in Quebec is excellent. I had my fixed portlights fabricated by them. They are very meticulous and reasonable. I think mine were $300 each. Ask for Alain. He is very anal about his work. They could not exactly match the tight radius but you cannot tell. It took a little cutting to make them fit.

35 portlights

The previous owner (or his/her designee) replaced one of the fixed portlights above the galley on our 35-3 with a lewmar 4c opening port that seems to be the same shape as the remaining fixed ones- this is a really great thing, as it allows significantly more ventilation into the galley area (or out of the galley area). Get the templates from lewmar (they can be downloaded) and see if it fits your opening. I plan tol replace all the fixed ports with opening ones- here on the southern chesapeake, you can't have too much ventilation (unless you have air conditioning)

Lewmar 4C

Hi, Steve-
Is the opening 4C in the forward or aft fixed portlight position. The two are slightly differently shaped and I think the 4C only works in the forward slot. Is that where yours is? Thanks.

Our previous owner had ours done just before we bought the boat from him last year. The label on the ports is "moonlight, Berendsen Teknik A-S Denmark). They look very nice, they all open and are tinted. No leaks. Really enjoying this brand, though I know nothing of them. The survey said they were very high quality and they certainly appear so to me.

Anyone have specific part numbers for ANY brand of portlights that fit the stock openings on an E35-2?
I have a few originals which I have replaced, so may be able to supply a replacement if you need one or two.

Otherwise you will have to make the opening larger for a new replacement, Lewmar make one which is just slightly larger.

First do make a careful set of measurements for the existing cutouts, before shopping. When we replaced all of our Lewmar 1988 opening ports, the 2021 Lewmar "Atlantic" opening ports needed a slightly larger cutout, and this was a great help in the project. A couple of the EY cutouts got trued up a tad, also. (!)

Thanks for the offer. Though, I think I'll go ahead and replace everything with new hardware. I'm pretty sure mine are the originals from 1970, so if they made it this long, new replacements should be a one-time job for me.

Are you happy with the Lewmar portlights?

Good day,

I am also facing some leaky portlights on my 1986 Ericson 28-2. I believe that the problem is between the glass and the frame. Are gaskets for the old Lewmar portlights still available? or is there a replacement gasket that fits?

Thanks,

Stéphane

Regarding the gaskets for the "old standard" Lewmar opening port lites, I have 8 on my 87 E34, two of which leak, seemingly at the gasket. I called Lewmar who said they had not made the old standard for many years, had no gasket material and suggested I replace the old standard with their "new standard" opening port lites, at $500 each. Plus they said the opening for the new was the same as for the old so that the replacement was "simple" , not cheap. Apparently the new standard has a similar but slightly different gasket which will not fit in the old standard units.

Christian found an e-bay site in the UK which had several old style gaskets and I ordered one which was advertised as "old standard". It did look like the old standard (had the same "arrow head") but was much too large, 1/2" diameter versus about 1/4 " and would not allow the lite to close. I ordered a smaller version but that too was too large. I am now trying a foam rubber gasket with no "arrow head" so I will have to glue it in place, presently waiting for delivery of several sizes to see which one fits and allows the lite to be closed.
