After replacing the "O" rings on the hatch 'dogs' the smaller (13 x 17 inch) forward hatch is still leaking. The leak seems to be coming around the gasket between the metal frame and the (intaact/non-cracked) gasket. Is it possible to [I]carefully[I] remove the gasket from the acrylic lens...
The dogs on my hatches seem to have developed a slight leak and are on the spring list of projects.
Is there anything special about opening the handle and fabricating new gasket material?
I am having a slight leak of water when the head is pumped. The fresh (salt) water seeps from the top of the head unit when pumping water to flush. I have checked the plastic nut that surrounds the pump shaft at the top of the unit and it is tight.
I am not sure of the unit model, but I am...
We have some water leaking from a small hole (about the size of a dime) in the bottom corner of the ice box enclosure. We are thinking it could be the drain hose connection for the ice box, but the ice box is all enclosed so we see no way to access the drain connection. Any ideas?
The last time I went to my boat, I had water in the bilge, Water on my port side counter, water on the port shelf behind the settee and water in the stowage lockers under the settee ( a lot!!! )
So I've been doing a bit of investigation as to when my boat is leaking.
I thougt maybe it was...
I have a 1976 Ericson 27 with a leaking fuel tank. I need to replace it but it is too big for the opening in the lazarette so i have to cut it up and remove in pieces. Before I go drilling and sawing the tank I want to make sure I am not going to explode. The tank is empty and I don't smell much...
I just launched my e27 last Monday. The boat has never really taken on much water before, but I noticed that the fore keel bolt area (where I think they originally attached to lift the boat) has a slow leak. I dry the area out and notice it just slowly fills back up again. I have gone weeks...
Hello,
I noticed water dripping from the bottom of my raw water pump on my
Ericson 28+ Universal model 5411 diesel. I bought new gaskets and a pair of
the round metal replacement seals to see if that would solve the leaking. I
would like to know if there is any thing special I...
I decided to find the leak coming from the topside grabrails on my E25cb today.
After I wrestled the postside grabrail off, I was dismayed at the amount of wet oatmeal I found (first picture). I dug around with a small allen key about as far as the marked dotted red circle shows (second...
After sailing in some classic Lake Michigan chop and 20 knots of wind this past weekend I discovered that the forward hatch on my 1983 E28+ is leaking when there's green water on deck. Looking closely I can see that the rubber seal no longer contacts the hatch frame even when it's dogged down...
New problem today. (Sigh)
Friday I did the oil and filter change and put in the new impeller and ran it for 20 minutes. All was well. Today I ran it in gear after checking the level in the transmission. (Oddly enough I did have to add about 1/4" of pink ATF. Cannot feel any seepage under the...
This is a project I have put off since purchasing our boat a couple years ago. The PO at the time of sale pointed out that the control valve for the shower leaks when you attemt to turn on the shower. My guess is that at some time it froze and has a crack in it. No leaks when the system is...
Hi everyone.
I know there are many post regarding leaking chainplates on the 38. Mine leaked several years ago and one has developed a small leak again. Last time I paid to have it repaurd this time I will need to do it.
My question is on the Starboard Chainplate that the upper and...
My Ericson 32 leaks severely around the mast. The mast is keel stepped but I don't think the leak is due to that (I installed Spartite a couple of years ago). I am wondering if it might be the hatch and then migrating forward. Any ideas?
First of all, friendly greetings to all the fellow Vikings!
I am a fresh (and very happy) owner of a beautiful '86 E32-3, hull #678. It's my 1st boat ever, so I've been working my way up the (steep!) learning curve and intensively consuming EY.org and other sites for over 2 months now ... I...
I recently installed 6 new opening portlights in my '85 35-3 from Bomar. I feel I did a pretty good job bedding them and some professionals I had look at them say they look good and should not leak but they do. I found a drop of water on one of the dogs after some moderate rain last week. I...
Hey Guys, I seem to remember a thread by someone who replaced his leaking portlights with either smoked safety glass or lexan. The portlight above the galley is ill fitting and although I have taken it out and resealed it the small leak continues. I thought that I might replace all of them the...
Has been leaking for sometime. Finally put in a bilge pump on Saturday, but that doesn't fix the problem. swing keel housing is a little chewed up. could that allow water seepage? Glad to have found the site.

As other E27 owners have posted here I am receiving a considerable amount of topside water entering the cabin via the chain plates. For those not familiar with the E27 there are 3 chain plates on each side of the boat. Each chain plate has a stainless steel trim plate (perhaps 3 inches long by 1...
Last week's heavy rains in the Annapolis area resulted in a significant leak running down the mast inside the cabin and also a steady string of water from the interior teak trim around the mast. I checked the newly installed mast boot and don't believe that the water is getting in between it...
Purchased an Ericson 27 last fall and was informed by the owner that the ports leaked slightly and he had included new gasket material which is exactly the same as used originally.Any info on the installation process?I understand it`s tricky...
I just discovered that our bulkhead compass is draining :-(
I spent quite some time trying to figure out how to take it apart without breaking the case, but I'm stumped. There are no screws and there is no obvious pry-off indentations. Should I just guess that the back is "glued" on and needs...
I need to pick your collective brains about an apparent leak issue on my E27. I say "apparent" leak, because after successfully caulking my windows, I noticed water is seeping from the joint in the cabin between the deck and hull, directly inside the rub rail. During my window repair, I looked...
Ok All...
Counting on you guys for help on this one. I've been working on rebedding my portlights (as has been previously mentioned) and was "unhappy" upon returning to the boat on Sunday after a big rain. Still having a good deal of leakage. I'm posting a picture to show where it's...
The forward port-side opening port in v-berth area leaked for some time, causing the wood panelling surrounding it to rot from the back side. Port has been removed, re-bedded, re-installed, no leak. But how the heck do I remove/replace the surrounding wood panelling which is slowly rotting away...
Unforunately I have had the boat on the trailer for a year. The bottom of my keel has been dripping water out of it, the whole time. Cleaning out the bilge yesterday, I pulled both the bilge pump and the pick up strainer for the hand pump. Under the strainer, in the bilge access closest to the...
Ok...I've read some of the other threads on this problem. Just hauled the old girl and among other things tried to address the rudder post leak. I repacked the stuffing box, checked the play, which was minimal, dropped the rudder, and greased everything. The thing still leaks. Is it the bronze cap...
First, let me say I am stupid when it comes to engines. I have a very slow leak at the 1 1/8" (1 1/4"??) diameter engine fresh water drain plug. It has a smaller plug within it, but does not seem to be leaking there. If I back it out a small amount and put polisulfide caulk on the threads and...
I have a 1979 29T On of my cockpit drains is leaking down into the stern quarter berth. We have tried to remove it and re-seal it but it has not worked. We think we need to put an entirely new drain in and seal it, but it is nearly impossible to get to since the drain is located right on the...
I found a little water dripping from the very bottom of the keel of a 1971 Ericson 29'. The boat otherwise is in excellent condition. Can anyone tell what is going on here?
Went down to the boat today to find a bilge full of water, boat main and shower bilge. We had very heavy rain showers last night. I noticed this last year when I got the boat that there was water around the mast step in the main cabin. After inspecting the mast boot I found it was dry as a...
