Hi All,
For your amusement you may enjoy the spectacle of 25 boats single handing to Kauai from San Francisco. There will be hourly position updates via the Single Handed Transpac 2012 website. I know of one Ericson - Olson 34 going along as I am the pilot.
Regards,
Brian
I was wandering around the big web site for the SF Singlehanded Sailing Society and took at look at the entries for the "Farallones Race - Saturday, May 21, 2011".

I found three Olson 34's.
Way Cool!
Some familiar Ericson owner names there. too.
(Sigh...) It would...
Any of the southeast Vikings going to be at DIR this year. I plan to hang at Buccaneer Yacht Club from 4-20 to 5-2 and do both the practice race on 4-23 and the DIR on 4-30. Hope some of EY.org group will be there. I know last year there was at least one other there.

I and some friends at our yacht club are organizing the 3rd annual Northeast Harbor Race. It is an overnight race from Portland to Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island(Acadia). It starts on Friday, August 27th. Boats usually finish Saturday afternoon. We have nearly a full moon and we...
Sailing outside Channel Islands Harbor on Saturday we saw quite a few classic wooden sailboats. Looked like a race was on. Hung around for a while and noticed a nice topsail gaff-rigged schooner with a blue hull. Very pretty. Was shooting some black and white film in my old Nikon FE2 and got a...
Great news for those who have been waiting for the Havana race to start up again:
The Sarasota Yacht Club is sponsoring a race from Sarasota to Havana on May 16, 2010. The participants will then race in the "Castillo" race in Cuban waters. The third even is a race from Havana to Key West...
Sorry some are not such great res. I ended up very light on crew so we did not fly the kite the whole race and did not place so well but we had fun in the 20-25kts of breeze.
The annual NE harbor race is coming up in a little over a month. This is an overnight regatta from Falmouth, Maine to Northeast Harbor, Maine. It is a one way destination regatta. NE harbor is on Mount Desert Island(Acadia National Park) and has lots to do and see. We are hoping to attract...
62nd Newport-Ensenada Race starts today at noon with 1/3 normal participants. Only 272 Entries to date as of April 22, 2009. Usually more than 400 boats.
My friend John is racing his 1970 E-30 Gypsy Woman. Go John!:egrin:
I also see a few other E-Boats, 30+, 32, 34, two 35's, two 38's...
I am NOT doing the Newport to Ensenada this year for a number of reasons- logistical pita, low chance of making it there unless I join cruising class, Ensenada is a bit dangerous lately.
There is a new race called The Border Run that is Newport to San Diego (via the Coronado's IF you want)...
The Corinthian Sailing Assoc on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain kicks of the 2009 season with our first race for the Winter series on Saturday the 24th. If your in the neighborhood, and want to come on out, get back to me.

Ok so Amani our Ericson 28 will be doing the Vallejo race next weekend but the wifes single gal pals have all been booked so looking like our chances of making front page in latitude 38 with an E28 isn't happening this year.
But we are still going! Wife and I along with my Mom who's been bit...
Hello Vikings
Its that time of year again!!
This year I will be making the trek south on a very fast Schock 35. We did the Channel Islands Harbor to Newport Beach Pier race last Saturday. We got 2nd place and it took us 11.5 hours to cover the 80 mile course. what a ride!!
I know there are...
I am thinking of taking my 1978 E29 tall rig to enter the Dauphin Island race at Mobile Bay in April. Has anyone entered that race or have any experience with Mobile Bay that might help me prepare for the race. There are several boats from the Rome Sailing club planning to enter.
The...
Did the Leukemia Cup race up the bay to Baltimore saturday. Pouring rain up to 10 minutes prior to the start then 15-20 from the NW with sun for the rest. Had a lousy start (downwind) but managed to eek out a 3rd in our division. Had 9 guys on the rail with the 150 and at points 2 reefs in...
Check out the Fastnet Tracker at http://www.eventserver.co.uk/raceplayer/playertest.aspx?app=oce&event=50&typ=E
In my experience these race trackers rarely work, and never work well. But this one is pretty spectacular.

Starlight E38 200
One of the guys at my club crewed on a boat in the Fugawi in MA over Memorial Day past. I haven't heard the whole deal but he said the only boat they couldn't catch was an E38! Wondering if anyone on the board was the culprit? RT
Was fun but light air. We never had more than 5kts and mostly 2-3kts of breeze. We ended up 6th in Division: PHRF A3 (14 boats). We beat everyone we owed time to and a lot that owed us time. The J-105 class started 20 minutes ahead of us andwe sailed through most of them to finish ahead scratch...
Hey SoCal Vikings
Its getting to be that time of year again!! I may be looking for ride again this year :esad:
I am interested to see who is going on the best trip to Ensenada in the spinnaker classes.
Let me know who is planning to go and if you may have room for a 8 year Ensenada veteran...
Basically they now let the boats advertise and have added a Cruising division (for the non-hard core racers).
More about it:

Ok, here we go! Tommorrow is our clubs Frost Bite Race. Yikes! We are supposed to get any where from 2" to as much as 10" of snow in the North Idaho Panhandle area where we sail. Looks like I will need to shovel off the boat before the race. The good news is the forecast of 15-20 mph winds...
The race starts at 1 pm. Tuesday December 26th, "Oz" time.
Here is a link to the official race website, which includes a countdown to start clock.

I have a slight interest in the Atlantic Race for Cruisers this year as one of my daughter-in-law's relatives is in it (still at sea). Here's a neat video (8.4 MB) someone took on another boat. I assume it's from this year, but I'm not sure.
I was all ready to go next year until I saw the...
We raced the Baltimore Harbor Leukemia Cup this weekend. We had 10-15 from the northwest. The boat did great! See http://www.bcya.com/ for results. We were in Class A3, the boat is Escape Plan. We beat several C&C 99s scratch as well as the Baltic 35 we were scratch with. It was mostly a beat...
I've had my 1988 Ericson 26, Popeye, since 1990. My family and I used it to cruise across the Great South Bay for day trips to Fire Island. I've done pursuit races in the past but lost my crew to golf and family. I now have a young and energetic crew to club race. They are inexperienced and I am...
We keep Sequoia set up as a cruiser, but do the occaisional "fun" race. We took the gun and top honors this past Saturday in our club's Double Handed Race in the non-spinnaker class. Fun for Kate and I to go out and walk all the guys who race their boats every week with racing sails and bring...
I will be participating in the Round Whidbey Island race again this year. For those who don't know about it, it starts outside deception pass at 9:00AM Saturday and ends in Oak Harbor at Sunday, 1:00PM. It is a great overnight race with tyipcal parcipation of about 15 boats. I plan on going...
Green Card, an Ericson 27 from Seattle was first in class and first overall at the Toliva Shoal Race on Saturday February 18th. Great day for a race. Check it out at www.ssseries.org
Good morning to all.
We have just received preliminary approval to race our little 1970 E-32 in the Marina del Rey - Puerto Vallarta race in February, 2007. For those not familiar with the topography of the west coast, this is a race of approximately 1175 NM. This gives us almost 14...
Hey folks,
Now that many of us have snow on the ground and we are now armchair sailors for another 5 or so months, I thought I might mention some wild and crazy sailing news (although I'm sure many of you are aware of this already):
How about these VOR 70's? On the first leg to Cape...
Anyone plan on catching the start of this race?

This well worded write up was in today's Scuttlebutt-for those who don't read it I am posting it for you-it applies as much to cruising as well-I think:

Ok, I know I pimp this race every year, but it is such a good time. Sloop Tavern is hosting on May 7 & 8 its annual Race to the Straits. Boats start based on their rating, such that if PHRF is accurate all boats should finish at the same time. Saturday we race from Shilshole to Point Hudson...
The Single Handed TransPac Race starts one week from today, June 26th. Three Ericsons out of 28 boats. Two E-35 MkII and a 30+. Follow the race at www.sfbaysss.org

I know that it is a ways off, but anyone interested in a really fun race/party in the Puget Sound should really consider the Sloop Tavern Race to the Straits on May 1 and 2. Briefly, the race is open to single or double-handed boats. The race is time on distance, so the slowest boats start...
On August 16th, 2003, the Corinthian Yacht Club of Tacoma is hosting its annual Vashon Challenge. Located at beautiful Tyee Marina ;) the race consists of a pre-race party on the Friday, and then on Saturday a race around Vashon Island. The race is for single or double-handed boats only, which...
This is a ways off, but no time like the present to plan. The Sloop Tavern Yacht Club is again this year sponsoring a single/double handed race to Port Townsend and back on Saturday May 3 returning Sunday May 4. I helped organize this last year, and it was awesome. Last year was the first...
