New Mast/Standing Rigging and Olson History
The title could be inverted to read ''Olson History and New Mast/Standing Rigging". I'll let Loren figure out where best to put this... It's been a while since I logged on, so a brief review will help: Yes, there was a dismasting in July. Yes, it put a huge damper on the summer and forced an...

Shroud sizes for Olson 34
Hi, My tall rig Olson 34 has original rod rigging and I'm thinking that it would be prudent of me to replace them after all these years. I'll go with standard wire rigging that I can more easily tune myself. Can anyone recommend what dia wire I should chose for the 3 side stays ? My...

Olson 34, tall rig- verify ballast
Does anybody know with certainty what the ballast should be on the next to last Olson 34 built by Ericson? I'm addressing a very old PHRF rating and it's asking for Ballast. I found 3,500 lbs in Sailboatdata.com but wondering if there were any changes over the life of the O34 to balast. Thanks!

O34 - Mast Opening and SS "Collar"
Here is the cleaned up and polished SS mast plate (aka "collar")carrying the turning blocks. I have over-drilled and epoxied and re-drilled all holes. Behind this is the small rectangular opening for the SS tang that drops thru & connects, on the...

O34 - Gear Removal Progress
As of yesterday we have everything removed from the deck except the wheel/binnacle, cockpit seat, and (saved for last due to safety concerns) the perimeter lifelines/stanchions. The photos show some construction details. Our shroud connection at...

Olson 34 Running Backstays (to be or not to be)
Gents, So I've been through the process of replacing all the standing rigging on my new-to-me O34. At some point in the process I realized that the boat did not come rigged with any running backstays (although the mast column has the fitting where a terminal would be inserted). Any feedback...

Olson 34 Over-the-Road Height
Have any Olson 34 owners trucked their boat and happen to know the over-the-road height (bottom of keel to highest point above the waterline)? Am good with the 6" from keel to waterline part :)

Ericson/Olson 34 seeking new rudder
I'm considering haveing a new rudder made for Loki. Current rudder works fine, until, heeling with the chute up. Round-ups are difficult to anticipate, and correct, leaving me to think my rudder is not deep enough. I've heard of many California boats having their rudders updated to a more...

30 plus chainplates
So I resealed every fitting on my deck and I have a question about my chain plates. On my 30+ there is only one "traditional" chain plate that attaches to the bathroom bulkhead. The other 3 rings on deck for the shrouds bolt through the deck to long stainless rods that attach to turnbuckles...

Chainplate Inspection [Master Thread]
How do you inspect the chain plates on a E34 with the triaxial grid hull. I cannot even see the attachment points in the hull let alone inspect them for corrosion.

Four O-34's under sail
In Portland there are 4 of the 39 Olson 34's that were built by EY, 1988 - 1990. My friend Dan emailed me last week to say that he had convinced the other two that moor near him to all go out for a group sail and also had a friend with a "photo boat" coming along. This was last Thursday...
