Ok, so at the mid-summer rendezvous there was some talk of a boat show rendezvous. What logistics are we thinking for this one ? We always go to the show on Friday. Is that along the lines of the what others do ? We like to go on Fridays since the turnout on the weekend gets oppressive with...
Hello All,
This year my wife and I stepped up from a Catalina 22 to an Ericson 38 as some of you will know from my posts and miscellaneous ramblings. The gist of this post is that I feel maybe we went too far, purchased too much boat too soon. We fell in love with the E38, its size, layout...
My boat came with a canopy for when you are at a slip for extended periods to shade the cabin and cockpit. I believe it goes over the boom and then to the top of the stanchions. It has 3 rollup sections per side. The hole you see in the photo must be for a topping lift? I would never need...
Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering if anyone has any other ideas about making our little boat faster (besides skill and execution)
We have an Ericson 32-2 (1970)
In the past year we have:
new kevlar medium #1,
new running rigging
new symmetrical spinnaker
changed hank on sails to luff...
any folks do business w/good boat yards in san pedro / la harbor? i have a e23 i need to get hauled out, mast stepped, and placed on a trailer for a pull back to the boulder, colorado area...the e23 is docked near ports o'call, i would like to move her over to a boat yard and start gettin' her...
I recieved my "pre-approved" letter.
On there was a list of items that I neede to get them along with all the fees.
The fees seemed reasonable except one:
USCG Documentation: $550
I called the National Vessel Documentation Center and discussed what forms I needed with them. Total...
Here is a new listing on YW for a 1985 E35-III. Does anyone out there know this boat? It is on the hard in Mattapoisette, MA. I am going to look at it on Saturday. Anyone in the area willing to take a peak at it? I would make it worth your while :cheers...
We occaisionally have the joy of watching an identical boat to ours sail by. It happened again yesterday... I love watching the boat from a distance, sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own boats that we forget how pretty she is from a distance. I watched a boat headed to anchor/slip...
“What for you do that?” was a saying my mother used whenever I did something that didn’t make sense to her. After going through tough times in the war years, immigrating to Canada and starting a new life here, she liked things simple and had difficulty in spending money on things that weren’t...
This will be my first full year with the local race club and I have committee boat duty for one race.
At anchor I usually swing around the hook pretty bad. (Beer helps me to ignore it). I can't imagine holding a good starting line for the rest of the club with my boat swinging around as it...

 . Any one use these? Are some better than others? Sounds like a good idea, to have a i Pod loaded with 10,000 songs and have this at your finger tips with the volume control in the cockpit. Seems like a great idea, not having to drag out all those CDs & tapes for my longer...
Has anyone ever heard of or seen an E34 named dot.calmed from the lower chesapeake(Solomons, MD)? I am going to check it out this weekend.
Thanks

Seth;
I am a new member of this group. I look forward to seeing you at the Chicago boat show in February and pick your brain concerning Ericson boats, specificially the 36C. Where will you be hanging out?
Roy
In addition to being an amateur sailor, I'm also an amateur musician and songwriter.
I was down on my E27 one night with my guitar and came up with the idea for this song, "Get On That Boat". I think it's a subject that will appeal to all here, if not the performance. :)
Listen to it on...
Hello,
I own a 30+ and it is in Long Beach, CA near the Queen Mary and other very dirty and smog producing large vessels. Every time I go up to see my boat it is quite dirty and requires and hose off.
Are there custom or factory covers for this size? If so, are there any recommended...
I've seen some of the websites folks do for their boats and they are fantastic. I've decided to try it a little different and blog the boat. It won't be controversial, but I think if I can keep it up, it might get interesting with maintenance, trim thoughts, etc... starting it in the winter is...
Fairclough winter cover for sale. Made for 1997 E-380. This is a full cover extending from top of boom, over all pulpits and lifelines, to boot stripe. Aluminum frame included. Good condition.

Just a curious question about how much boat stuff you all purchase on Ebay. I've always been a little Ebay leary, but then I found a guy who has good line CHEAP! I haven't recieved my first order from him yet, but I'm hoping it's a good thing. The discussion about the feathering prop just had...
I dont know if anyone else has noticed their boat swing around a lot while at anchor in a moderate to heavy breeze.
It seems that other boats in the same anchorage lie relatively calmly into the wind while our Ericson 29 is pacing back and fourth like a spooked horse.
Watching the boat for...
E-35-3 1984 # 164 When running the engine { universal 21 } at 1800 RPM'S I'm doing about 4 knots, is this about normal and what should be the
typical running maxium RPM'S? I'm sure it will vary between boats, but I'm trying to get an average. Thanks Chip
We went to the boat show today. Crowds are MUCH better on Thursday- and vendors and boat sales/design folks actually have the time and inclination to chat a little.
After much research and reading, I talked to the reps from Balmar today and got my new Electrical charging system figured out...
Let’s say I have this friend whose brother’s girlfriend’s cousin’s Grandmother is looking at an abandoned boat that will be coming up for auction soon. Hypothetically it is in cosmetically terrible condition. Imagine she is interested in keeping the other offers really low so she’s entertaining...
Just wanted to let all the Puget Sound area sailors know that there's another guy breaking in to sailboats. In this case we got off easy. He ate our food, drank our Diet Snapple, cognac, water and my 12-year-old single malt scotch. Only damage is to our sense of security and the hasp for my...
Good morning all,
Well, my partners and I pulled "Voice of Reason" from the water last thursday. We bought her in February and we're doing some upgrading to make her a little more competitive in racing. We've got a new Kevlar #1 genny from Ullman, upgraded the running rigging and bought...
At the end of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the elves, Gandalf, Frodo and Bilbo travel to the Grey Havens to board a ship. The place they were bound for is Valinor. Valinor is part of the continent Aman, also called the Undying Lands, to the west of Middle Earth across the Great...
I have 2 gel cells bought in 1998 and all new electrical from previous owner on 1974 35-2.
2 years ago I had to replace my charger as they were not getting charged and became completely discharged once.
Suddenly I'm arriving to go sailing and yet again finding dead batteries... (What is...
Hello All,
Our boat has been sitting in Santa Barbara for few weeks now. On the trip from San Diego the weatherh tuned bad and my crew had to leave her :esad: . I'm looking for a few crew members who may be able to join me and go to Santa Barbara Thurs. AM the 28th to bring her up the coast...
I hate to advertise one of my auctions thats not 100% Ericson related, but this is boat related.
I have a $100 Gift Card to West Marine/Boat US Stores, or their websites, up on eBay. It's starting at $49.95, so that's like $50 off your next purchase at WM or BoatUS...
We are beginning the process of selling off 18 years of boating gear on eBay. If interested we have things such as our Porta-Bote dinghy, anchor sail (as shown in the article I wrote), Fortress anchor, Honda four cycle 2 HP outboard, anchor rodes, searchlights, binoculars, anchoring kellet...
Can anyone recommend a yard in the area of Portland, Me? I need to put the boat undercover so I can rip up the deck, and I need to yard to have skilled labour to handle the jobs that are beyond me, such as repairing a hull to deck joint.

Can anyone recommend a good yard in the general Norfolk area who would be able to do major deck repair? I am in Pensacola, so have no idea about any facilities up there.
Any yards I should make a point to avoid?

Well not only is this my first project boat, this is the first boat Ive owned. Now Im worried that Ive gotten in over my head. Now for my experience Ive helped friends of mine for a good 15 years helping them with general maint. on there boats ( both power and sail) and Ive done some building...

This guy in my community is giving away a 35' boat. He said engine is dead, but hull is OK. I'm tempted to take it (at take a look at it) since I have unused dock space, but I don't want to get stuck with something I cannot get rid of or have to pay to get rid of, if it becomes junk.
My...
I have been practice sailing in relative calm waters around my house and all is fine. I'm now planning to take my boat out for the first time to the San Francisco Bay, where the waves could get bigger (2-3 feet when breezy and higher if windy). I saw some boats carry a small row boat on board...
Hi,
My Ericson 26 sleeps 4. But for day cruising trips where people just sit around, it seems like I can take take more people on board. Does anyone know if there is a limit beyond which the boat will sink or flip over or pose other risks?
Robert
So whose going to the San Diego Boat Show and when are you going?
I am fairly certain it starts Thursday afternoon (Jan. 8th) and goes through the weekend.
I am booked for Saturday and Sunday. I have to help my Mother-in-law move. I am not sure if I can go at all, but it would be a nice...
Hello Northwesterners,
I've posted a picture of E38 hull #20 with it's newest livery.
The lettering and installation were done by Windworks Graphics at Shilshole Marina in Seattle, a new business of the sailing club I belong to. The graphics guy, Scott Stout, did this for several years way...
I own a '76 E23 that seems to sit unevenly at rest. With the boom and main on the mast and the 4 forward sails in their bags in the V berth, no water in the tank or extra gear, it sits bow up at least 4 inches off of the water line. Is this the designed attitude or should I consider moving...
Howdee folks. We have a 1985 Ericson purchased in North Carolina, but which originated in Ohio (Lake Erie launch I suspect). All the information received on the boat indicated it was an "Ericson 30", however it has not been possible to I.D. it definitely as any of the models shown on this...
I'm thinking of putting my 35' 1983 Ericson Mark 3 on the grid to clean the bottom. Have I anything to worry about other than attaching the ropes etc.? Would appreciate some replies from others who have done this.
Just curious to see if anyone is putting extra provisions on their boats just in case of things happening? A lot of people on our dock are and its got me thinking along the same lines now.
Although this has nothing to do with Ericsons, it does have something to do with the NW. As many of you in the NW know, the McKee brothers are sailing on the OneWorld challenge. Here is an article on Jonathan McKees new Paul Bieker designed racer/cruiser that will be coming to Seattle...
I'm looking into putting in a new stereo. Are those marine stereos really necessary? None of them have all the features that I'd like to have. I'm in dry Southern California, but it can get rainy in the winter. Also, Does anyone have any recommendations for cockpit speakers?
Thanks.
On my Ericson 32 I have looked high, I have looked low but I cannot find the ID Plate or engraving or stamp anywhere on the boat indicating the hull number. Please advise.
Jim Carlisle
I just purchased a 1986 30+ with some really nice cushions. Unfortunately, the previous owner left a wet anchor on the cushion and the salt water ate through the cushion cover. I want to replace just that cover (the others are in good shape), but the pattern doesn't seem to be in existence...
Thanks for the response to my earlier post in search of an Ericson 27. Most helpful.
I have found a half a dozen, many of which will involve some overland trucking, which I think is just a price/value issue.
But I would like some advice from you, the more-informed-than-me members of this...
Potential Buyers!!!!
If you are on the tall side and still want to enjoy sailing the E-32 is for you. If you are tired of banging you head against the backstay while docking or tacking, the E-32 is for you.
And just as important, for cockpit relaxation the E-32 has almost seven feet...
