California offers coastal visitors only a few island-visiting opportunities. Los Angeles has the lovely Catalina group, Santa Barbara is near the Channel Islands, but from the San Francisco Bay, we have only the Farallon Island archipelago. Located 25 miles off the Golden Gate the Farallones...
Hi All,
A little bit about myself. I have been crewing on race boats for over five years, working up from weekly beer-cans, to club races, local regatta, and eventually off-shore racing. At this point, I am now in the market for my own boat. The main objectives for my boat will be family...
Red White and Blue star spangle Asymmetrical Gennaker made by North Sails. $1500 obo
This came off our Ericson 38, (since sold) the condition is excellent as good as new- no rips tears, all sheets, snuffer and turtle bag, attachment to headsail- all ready to sail. The sail has been stored...
Hope I can get some insight from one of you about the purpose of a forward-facing sheave on the mast - 4 feet or so below the sheaves for the spinnaker and jib halyard exits.
My boat is setup for a spinnaker (although I haven't yet used it) and one of the POs had done some enhancements to a few...
Hi all,
We are selling our Ericson 38's symmetric spinnaker (replaced with an asym as we are short-handed).
It came with the boat, so not sure how old it is, but it is in very good condition: no tears, seams intact, maybe one or two stains in the fabric but mostly clean otherwise.
The fabric is...
A novice request for help.
I have a main sail and a furling jib. My boat did not include a spinnaker.
On the starboard side of my mast at deck level are two holes, each with a label:
Upper hole: Labeled "Spinnaker2" is not in use, and lacks a messenger line
Lower hole: Labeled "Main"...
I'm picking up my (new to me) E25 next weekend and plan to evaluate it and do needed updates this winter. The boat is in very nice overall condition and has been well cared for. Several things I plan to do (by necessity or by choice) include fabricating and installing a mast hinge so I can...
G'day fellow E boat owners, I am new to this group being that I recently purchased a 1986 38-200 here in Bermuda.
I would like to ask about any information or experiences that other owners have had with regularly using asymmetrical spinnakers, for ex. bowsprit, is it a must, if so where could I...
Hello Fellow Ericson Owners! I have owned Seascape, an Ericson 32-3 (vintage 1985) since the fall of 2013. I am in the San Francisco Bay Area and I race and cruise in the bay and in near coastal waters. I have been reading this site for a few years but never really contributed much. I recently...
Greetings,
My Ericson 32-3 was set up for cruising when I purchased it. I'm in the process of setting it up for racing and I'm looking for ideas / suggestions on location of the foreguy block, the leads, etc. We anticipate doing end for end gybes. I would be grateful if anyone would share...
I purchased an E29 this summer with partial spinnaker rigging and want to determine what additional hardware I'll need.
I have the spinnaker pole, the mast has a spinnaker ring on the front, there is one 2.5" block mounted on the lower starboard side of the pulpit and 1 car on the starboard...
I recently purchased an E29 with a spinnaker pole of about 13'. The PO thought that the pole may have come from a different boat and was likely too long.
Any thoughts on what the length of a pole should be on an E29?
Fellow E25+ sailors,
I am looking for advice on where to mount a spinnaker pole ring on the mast. My 1981 25+ has neither ring nor track to which to attach the spinnaker pole that I bought primarily for wing and winging for club racing. Obviously would have more flexibility with a track, but...
I'd like to add a symmetrical spinnaker to my sailing capabilities, and I see some used ones on the market that will fit. Do spinnakers lose their shape as drastically as mains and jibs, or is dropping $500 on a used sail worthwhile, versus a new one costing $2000? I will be using this for...
Saw this on ebay. No personal interest. Thought I would pass it on.

If this has ever happened to anyone perhaps you can help me out. We were taking down my mast this weekend for the winter and next summers transit through the Erie Canal. We were removing all the running lines from the cockpit and laying them down at the foot of the mast. Well about an hour later...
recently purchased a '80 30+ (ERY30540M80H) with a spinnaker in the inventory. the previous two owners never flew it. i have a kenyon mast with the 'triple-cage' sheaves. i'm guessing the sheave (port side) is for the spinnaker. is this correct? i've attached a pic of the mast head (hopefully)...
I have a brand new spinnaker just waiting to be used. I'm trying to sort out the best configuration for running the topping lift and foreguy. I see the obvious mast fitting for a block for the topping lift, but what is the best way to run the line. There is also a fitting on the foredeck...
Hello all, I am currently in the market for a spinnaker for my E 35-2. I need to know what dimensions am I looking for. If any of you have an old one you would like to turn into money or can point me in the right direction please reply. I am in Victoria, B.C. Thanks, Captain Crunch

My '88 E26 needs spinnaker sheets. Currently flying a cruising spin using the genoa sheets. I know the rigging originally called for 3/8". Thinking about going with 5/16" Samson Ultralite. Anyone done something similar? It would be light and not take up water. Size is my main concern...
I bought an 1988 E-28 last summer. It had been on the hard for 4 years and somewhere during that time the pole went missing. The PO was deceased and his wife had no idea where it may have gone. The boat came with a good spinnaker. Around a 12 foot pole will do.
Just saw this over at Sail Boat Owners, thought someone might be interested;

I am looking for advice/opinions regarding adding an asymmetrical spinnaker to my 1989 E38-200.
The A-sail is going to function for both limited ( unfortunately) cruising and local racing.
I have some questions regarding the possible setup and seek assistance with any and all.
1)Has anyone been...
I know they should be twice the LOA (or more) but I don't know how to determine the diameter. I assume that handling comfort would preclude very thin ones even if they are strong enough, but since I'll be buying 160' of it I want to go on more than assumptions.
Our recut asymmetric...
On the Chesapeake, we get days where the air is so light that the standard sails just can't pick up and fill. I've been giving some thought to the purchase of a drifter or perhaps an asymmetric spinnaker for those extreme light air days. Which will serve better? Any imput would be greatly...
When I first measured it I was overjoyed because I thought it was a cruising spinnaker ... I had measured wrong. It is a symmetric spinnaker measuring 47' x 47' x 27' foot +/- a few inches.
It is white, yellow and orange and I think the fabric is spotless. The cringles and surrounding fabric...
I recently purchased an assymetrical spinnaker. I am used to flying a spinnaker or assym from a masthead rig.
My 30+ is fractional with a tapered mast. Because of the taper I have decided to fly it at the fractional height for strength.
My sheaves are all presently below the fore stay...
Can anyone suggest what diameter line to use for spinnaker sheets on an E28+. I just purchased the boat with a new, unused spinnaker but no gear. Any suggestions on appropriate line size for sheets/guys etc. would be appreciated. Thanks. Steve
North 3/4 oz tri-radial w/ ATN snuffer, 3 guys/sheets. Came with the boat, we have never used it. It is like new (crispy!). I've been told the dimensions (L/L=45'6", F=25'2") aren't regulation for our E38. For pictures, go to: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/boa/1117939488.html
Nancy and I will not be flying a spinnaker. We will go looking for an asymmetric spinnaker to fly without a pole, but that's as extreme as we'll get.
I'm considering the possibility that we might want to use the pole (in apparently very good shape, just needs paint) to help hoist the dingy...
The spinnaker on our 1984 E30+ came without spinnaker sheets. The specs sheet that came with the boat list the sheets as 55' in length and 3/8" dacron double braid line. Can anyone confirm that this is the correct length before I buy them--it would not be good if they were a foot or two too...

Do any of the E28 owners know if the original Kenyon mast fittings came with a sheeve mounted above the head stay for a spinnaker halyard? Does anyone have any experience with masthead spinnaker on a fractional rig? I have seen on grand prix level boats, but I am unsure of stress on mast head...
Looking for a spinnaker that will fit my boat - Asymmetrical or Symmetrical, or both.
I=36.5
J=12.2
I believe that would dictate a sail with about a 36.5' luff and a 21.96' foot.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe luff should equal the I dimension and the foot should equal 1.8...
Since I am now retired and am taking things easy (?) I would like to sell our tri radial spinnaker.
When the snow melts I will take some measurements and pictures, then post them. It is in very good shape.
Hello I have an E 36 (RH) and would like to know what size spinnaker and or asymmetric spinnaker I should get. I would like to buy a cheap used one to start with but don’t know what size. As an example here is an ebay add for an asymmetric measuring (Luff 41' 4", Leech 37' 1", Foot 19' 4'' )...
Hello all! I put the spinnaker pole from my E32-3 (1987) boat up for auction on eBay. Check it out if you're looking for one!;)
Here is the link: spinnaker pole
I have the spinnaker pole, that came with my E32-3, off the boat and in storage at my business. It's been there for almost two years because I took it off since we fly an A-spinnaker and would never need it for that kind of sail. I'm even thinking about pulling the spinnaker deck mounts off...
Hi,
I need a set of headsails suitable for offshore sailing for my E-32 MkIII. In particular I'm looking for and A-sail, a .75 sym, a drifter, and a heavy air jib. Also, I need a great main with 3 reef points. My boat is a 1987 E32.
I also need a spinnaker pole for the boat.
I'm...
When the boat yard un-stepped my mast and put my boat up for the winter, the halyard ended up loose below in the cabin. Boat is rigged with a North furling system. I'm a relatively new owner and this is the first year of rigging "Blue Note". The masthead has 2 sheaves, one for the main...
I am putting new ends on my pole that will be a lot lighter than the lead filled ones that it came with. I got a set of Forespar composite ends with internal trips. The ends can also be also opened externally by sliding the piston back till it latches. It looks like the way these ends were...
I have 2 150% genoas and a spinnaker for an E29 for sale
Sail 1 150% is dacron with some sort of laminated nylon? in pretty good condition with one small tear along the foot about one inch long. Hanks are very slightly corroded. previous owner taped? some sort of chafe material around...

Nice article about flying a spinnaker without pole on an E-38. Several good pictures, too.
Enjoy,
Loren
Eventually I'll know something about sailing and I will be able to answer more questions than I ask. Until then, how long should a spinnaker pole be for a E35 with a J=14'. There's a really nice pole on Ebay right now that's 16'. Is this too big for a 14ft foredeck. As always, I thank you...
Hello All--
After completing my first season with my "new" boat, I have had a great time and learned a lot. I'm now in the process of putting together a list of repairs/improvements to work on during the off season here in the SF Bay. I'm also going to take a trip up the Delta next June, so...
:egrin: 2.8"X10' WITH FORESPAR ENDS. LOOKS ALMOST NEW, WHEN I GOT THE BOAT IT HAD WHISKER POLE AND SPINNAKER POLE. NO SPINNAKER SAIL THOUGH SO I DONT NEED THE SECOND POLE. RETAIL IS AROUND $600, ANNAPOLIS PERFORMANCE SUPPLY CAT. HAS IT FOR $525. ASKING $200 WITH LOCAL PICKUP IN THE DALLAS, TEXAS...
My spinnaker rig has this type of block attached to the mast with a strap eye:
To avoid chafe, I've determined that the best way to "store" the block is to run a messenger line in place of the topping lift to avoid UV damage and prevent the block from banging around up there. Is this the...
I’m new to spinnakers, so please bear with me.
Ernesto damaged the sheave mount for my spinnaker topping lift – presumably from wind damage since it was not rigged at the time. Soon, I will reattach it, and “While I’m At It”, I’m going to compile the rest of the spinnaker lines.
Some...
We need to modify the masthead to fly a spinnaker. There are three existing jib halyards: one dedicated to the roller furling, one to the port, and one to the strbd. We are planning to pull the mast and are considering if we should attach some kind of vale with a block outside of everything to...
This is the 2nd sail we have. It is very good to excellent condition. Comes with bag and sock. It is a Hood sail med. yellow top/bottom w/ med. blue center. It is about a 4 oz. sail. sail has very few stains and looks great out. the sock is fairly grungy but fully functional(sock may clean up...
I have a 1987 32-3. Just ran new halyards for the spinnaker which didn't exist before, althought the mast was rigged for it. Now I need a spinnaker. I am still learning how to use this sail, so I don't want a new one. But if anyone is looking to get rid of their old one for cheap. I would...

I have been talking to an engineer/boat designer/boat builder friend of mine and we are going to build a pole for my E-38-200. He is building one for his 30 footer that he races. We are going to use carbon fiber and vacuum bag it. I am trying to decide on a proper diameter and then a wall...
Does anyone know where the Spinnaker pole foreguy,(downhaul), attatches to the foredeck. We just bought a spinnaker to go with all the spinnaker rigging that came with the boat and for the life of me I cannot figure out where the foreguy is attatched.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated
Greg
Has anyone priced out how much a carbon pole is for a 38? The existing one is a monster and I need to double the foredeck crew to manhandle it around the boat.
I know the AL size is 15'3" X 4" and I talked to Larry Tuttle at Waterrat about it (they make high performance dinghy products for...
We are accepting offers for a spinnaker from our E-35 II. The sail is from the mid 70's, but has been used ONCE since 1984. It saw some use with the previous owner, but how much can not be determined. After an inspection while in the bag, the sail looks to be in good condition. It is red and...
I am looking for a used spinnaker (symmetrical) for an Ericson 38. If anyone has one sitting around in the garage or dock box wanting to see the glory of the open sea... please let me know. I need one for the Newport to Ensenada race in April and can't afford a new one at this time. I could...
hi all- looking for a table extension leaf for my e-28 -any condition. also need bimini, dodger, spinnker and main. let me know what you have and what you are asking.wiland@hotmail.com
I need a spinnaker for my E32. Mine was stolen and I'm going to wait a little prior to purchasing a new one. It was not stolen off the boat, but more than likely being used to spice up some teenagers room.

It is my understanding that some clubs allow spinnaker and non-spinnaker boats to compete in the same race, with a handicap hit (usually around 21 sec phrf) if the spinnaker is flown. I'm curious how this has worked out, if it has created any problems, and if there are any other issues to...
I was looking at the numbers with a friend on the size of spinnakers that we use on my Ericson 27. I use A-Sails. It turns out that the size of my white A-Sail seen in the pictures in this thread is not too much bigger than a Melges 24 A-Sail. I have arranged for the use of a set of Melges 24...
Does anyone have a picture of the masthead on an E32-3 that has a spinnaker halyard and the block for it? Mindscape was not rigged for a spinnaker originally and I'd like to figure out how to get a block on the mast head that will allow me to fly my cruising chute. Thanks for your help.
Spinnaker shape question
Last weekend I flew for the first time the UK tri-radial spinnaker that came with my boat. I noticed that it seems cut somewhat narrowly (almost concave) in the shoulders. Does this mean it is designed more for reaching that downwind?
Anyone have an asymmetric spinnaker/gennaker for an E38 that they dont use enough to justify keeping? I would be delighted to buy it. Email direct: ware@qed.econ.queensu.ca
Thanks, Roger Ware, Kingston, ON
I wish to put a spinnaker on my 1972 E27.
Right now, I have a jib on a roller furling, and obviously the main.
Is there room for a third halyard for the spinnaker or how does it work?
Help
I have a very specific question about launching the spinnaker. Do most folks use some sort of yarn to tie it together in a sausage (like on the AC boats)?
My prior boat was a San Juan 21. When launching the spinnaker we just did it, with one person on the halyard, and one hauling both...

During an attempt to rig a spinnaker halyard, the sheave or sheave spindle has broken. Resulting in the sheave being inside the mast at deck level
Does anyone know how the sheave is installed in the Isomat mast on a 1988 E26? Can the sheave carrier be removed from the mast without taking...

I need a little help here. I have a 1990 32-200 and looking for a used spinnaker but have no idea what size to buy. This is my first sailboat and have no clue about the sail sizing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Bryan
My E35-3 does not have spinnaker gear on it. I was wondering if it would be worth adding such gear - and what it would cost (generally).
Can any of you give me any advice about what the best approach for retrofitting spinnaker gear?
Thanks,
