Hi guys. New boat for me. Mine is '76. Has pedistal steering. Came w/ Harken furler, MPS sail/sock & complete selection of sails Would the addition of a boom vang be a logical improvement? Thanks, in advance, for the pros and cons.
I will mold a hatch out of fiberglass if I could get a commitment of at least 4 hatches sold. The hatch would be molded to have the teak deck boards installed on top or a polycarbinite insert that would let in light.
I am rebuilding my teak hatch now. I can build a new teak hatch for...
I have a Palmer P60 gas engine (60 Cu. in., 6.5:1 compression,22HP @ 3000rpm) on my 1974 E27. Due to space limitations I am wanting to add an additional starter battery of a smaller size. I already have 2 house batteries for backup. Looking at the P60 engine manual I see a no load requirement of...
I pulled my '74 E27 for a bottom job. As you can see from the photo, the actual waterline is angled relative to the previously painted lines indicating a possible stern down bow up resting position. I've heard that Ericsons may "squat" a little in the water. I don't know if the original bottom...
I have been given a used Raytheon R-10, and wondered if anyone has any tips/warnings about installing it.
Is it best to put the dish on the mast or at the stern on a pole?
Best place for screen?
Any ideas would be welcome.
My boat had the misfortune of being in La Paz when hurricane Marty hit, both the bow and stern pulpits were completely destroyed. If anyone has a used set of bow and stern pulpits from a similarly sized boat please let me know. I can do minor modifications if it is not a perfect fit.
I am looking at a 1976 Ericson 27 that's for sale. It has the best looking deck I expect to ever see in a used boat. There are no cracks at all. The boat is in excellant condition & the asking price is reasonable.
There is one major concern though. When standing on the foredeck and...
Has anyone removed a rudder while the boat was still in the water? We have some delamination on the bottom of the rudder and we would like to remove it for the repair without hauling it (it was just put back in). Anyone have any expierence in this matter or heard anything. It seems the...
I'm considering an Ericson 27 as my next boat but I've read that it tends to be slow for a 27 footer. I want a comfortable coastal cruising boat but I don't want to be watching everyone else's transom recede into the distance. I'd like to hear what you think of the boat's speed. Just as a...
I am looking for a steering wheel & pedistal assembly and related hardware to change an E27 From tiller to wheel.
Any comments about doing change would be appreciated.
Hi, There is an E27 on ebay located in Rochester. Anybody on this list in that area that may know this boat, and have an idea of what it might be worth? It does not appear to have a rudder in the photos the seller sent me. That is probably a good story!
Thanks, Scott
1971 E-27. Yanmar 2GM w/1400 hrs, Harkin roller furling with a UK 150% '01 and Lee 110% '99. Main Lee '00. New dodger '01. This is a clean well maintained sailboat. It is a great day sailor and vacation cruising boat. I am the third owner and have had Sea Spray for 7 years. I am selling...
This review answered many of my questions, such as the hard steering under power. Sounds like it was written by an experienced sailor. Read on. Jeff Asbury.
Very well built small cruiser. 9' beam and 7000lbs. Modified fin keel with encapsulated ballast and fin rudder. Have a Simrad 3000...
Just purchased an E27. Just finished winterizing. I have removed the rudder to repair some surface cracks. Have routed out numerous cracks and removed several areas where water has creeped under fiberglass.
Has anyone got any experience with these foam/steel rudder repairs? I would...
I have an E27 that I just bought in September.
First, there are blisters on the hull which are small in nature, but are numerous. My question is, what is the most expedient way to repair the hull.
Secondly, the boat has a tiller for a helm, which is fine, I have no problem steering, but...
I have owned my 27 for a few years now and have never had the stick down. There are several projects up the mast that I'd like to tackle this winter, but I am significantly shorter on financial resources than creativity. The yard wants big bucks to drop the mast for me, and I have a perfect...
I wish to put a spinnaker on my 1972 E27.
Right now, I have a jib on a roller furling, and obviously the main.
Is there room for a third halyard for the spinnaker or how does it work?
Help
(not sure if I posted this thread corectly the first time). So I'm doin it again. I Purchasing an E27 with no ourboard, can any one recomend an IDEAL size engine.
HI E Owners, I'm in the process of purchasing a Mid '70's E27, not being sold with an engine! Can you recomend an ideal motor for this model (E27). Also would apreciate any fixer uper tips.
I have an E-27 with an outboard engine on the transom. Originally the boat had an inboard. If I installed a diesel inboard, I wonder what effect the extra weight of the engine and drag of the prop would have on the speed and performance of the boat. Can I have some opinions?
Frank
I've just acquired a 1973 E27. There is a crack in the ceiling on the starboard side in two places. On the outside of the head and on the inside of the head - two separate supports for the deck.
Attached are photos showing the water stains dripping on either side of the wall between the...
I have a loose bolt at the end of the boom, securing the mainsheet and topping lift to the boom. I tried to remove the end cap screws to tighten, and the screws sheared off.
Is the just a cap that you can just pop off, if I drill out the screws?
Or is it something much more sinister???
Hello, appologies if this is redundant, but I didn't see it in the archives, so....here goes...
My E-27 has the handrails inside and out, through-bolted through the deck. We removed them to sand/refinish them, and to re-bed to fix some leaks. When we disassembled, there were simply 1/4-20...
Hi All,
I am looking at the purchase of a 76 E27 and the survey
turned up the strangest thing. There appears to be a complete
void on the lower half of the keel below the encapsulated
ballast. This is forward of the bilge sump and runs the
entire length of the keel for the lower half on...
Does someone have a cut a way view of the conatruction of the e-27 keel. I have a problem with the bottom the keel that I need to remedy. There appears to be a vee shaped wood filler inside of the bottom of the keel, below the ballast that is deteriating and causing the bottom of the keel to...
Can anyone recommend a good tiller minder for my 1973 E-27? I am still fighting the tiller on long windless crossings under power to the Channel Islands. Makes it hard to enjoy the crossing. I'm not looking for a auto pilot, just something to secure the rudder as on wheel steering models. I...
I wish to re-bed the handrails on my E27. Does anyone know if I can simply remove the teak plugs and unscrew the rails? I did not know if the screws were machine with nuts underneath that may fall off, or if there is a threaded boss, or simply a large self tapping screw. Thanks in advance.
Steve
 Trying to locate spreader "feet" (to attach spreaders to the mast) For a 1976 E-27 . Mine have cracked and broken & I do not know if welding is a viable solution. Please let me know where these can be gotten. Oue short season is here and I do not want to miss out on sailing...
Would anyone know the cutout on the forward portlight on a 1974 E27? The outside frame measures 6" x 14". I wish to replace it with an opening type. Also what type sealant and ports would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know the purpose of the winch on the mast of an E27 and what size rigging wire is appropriate? Thanks in advance.

I could not tell if the area under the front V-Berth (where the water and waste holding tanks are located) drains to the bilge. I would like to hose the area down. I guess I could simply try it but thought I would ask. Thanks in advance.

I just wanted to thank all that helped in my decision to install a transom radar mast on my 1973 E-27. I installed a Furuno 1620 with a Edson mast kit. It took around 10 hours for the installation because there were a couple of parts that needed to be fabricated.
Does anyone know what the three red lights signify on the panel next to the ignition switch and the fuel tank meter, on the aft, port side of the cockpit? If so, which one is which.
I just refinished my spars with LP and upon disassembly of the boom to gooseneck (in order to paint only the extrusions), the connection between the end cap and the stud thru it to the gooseneck was a bear to seperate.
A machinist was able to seperate by a hydraulic press, but the part was as...
Common question, (I think), but I don't know the answer. If I had a cockpit dodger, would I have to climb around it each time to control the mainsheet and traveler? Is there an answer for this or should I just dodge the dodger?
Has anyone installed a radar on a 1973 (or there abouts) E-27. I have been told I would have to step the mast at great expense, so now I am looking into putting a radar mast on the transom. Please advise with pros & cons. Also interested in where to put the screen. I have a Furuno 1622 with...

I am readdy to paint my 1974 Ericson 27' inboard boat and need to know where the water line is. I am not concerned with the Boot Top stripe but the actual water line location. Can anyone measure thier boat (in or out of the water) and give me the distance from the bottom of the rubrail to the...

I have a '73 E27 that presently has one 12V, 240 gph pump and would like to add a secondary pump as back-up. I'd like a 2000+ gph pump and would like to know what other owners have configured.
I don't want to use the engine's waterpump diverted from raw water and I don't want to power an...
I am considering buying an E-27, and would like to know the hull speed of this boat, as well as the general sailing characteristics, good and bad. I presently own a Catalina 22 swing keel, so anyone with knowledge of Cat22, might be able to offer me a comparison on what I will be loosing/gaining...
I would like to change the fuel tank in my e27 equiped with a Atomic 4. I would like to get a permanent poly tank that has a fuel gauge.
 Has anyone removed the tank from the e27? Do I have to cut the deck? Is there a good tank out there that is of the same size without getting a...
Having some problems with the shift cable on my '77 E-27 W/ A4. I understand Morris is no longer making this cable.
Does anyone have imformation on a source for the correct cable, or what might be adaptable, if proper part turns out to be N L A...
i have just recently bought a 1973 e-27 that has been neglected for quite some time. I am not to sure what to check for on this boat to make sure that it is ready for sailing. I got a good deal on the boat because none of the cleats were backed by anything. Therefore one of these cleats were...
Howdy,
I'm considering the purchase of an E-27 with the Atomic 4. The whole boat is on need of work, the motor more so than the rest. What options have others looked at for repowering? My ideal scenario would be a diesel replacement. I don't have any idea of money yet, but I'm guessing...
A section of my fore deck has gotten very soft, and I know I'll have to replace the balse core.
I want to work from underneath so that I can keep a structurally sound and water proof deck (and not have a bunch of cut lines or filled-in holes). This means on my back in the v-berth, reaching...
I am selling my E-27 it is a 1974 model with roller furling, wheel steering, dodger. It is in good condition the interior has been recently reupolstered and I had the stove rebuilt. It has a palmer marine inboard engine that is running excellent. I hate to sell but I am not sailing enough to...
I just purchased my Ericson 27. It came with a 9.9 Johnson outboard. It appears to be terribly underpowered. I am planning on installing a mounting bracket + possibly getting a bigger motor. Does anyone know what the maximum HP outboard that I could install? I was thinking 15-20HP would be...
I'll be unstepping the mast on my 1975 E-27 for the first time, and need some advice on what needs to be done beforehand.
Specifically, what trim piece do I take off to get to the antenna and electrical wires. Once I get to the wires, is there anything I should do with them (besides unplug...
Hello Everyone!
I just bought my first boat, a 1977 E-27. The boat is in excellent condition with the exception of the running rigging. The halyards are in the worst condition and I won't feel safe sailing the boat until I replace them.
I'm looking for suggestions on a couple of...
Checked my running lights last night and found I need to replace the masthead and starboard lights. To save time, I'd like to have the replacement bulbs handy before I tear everything apart. Can someone tell me what the correct bulb numbers are please? Also, is there anything else I should...
I have a 1976 E-27 for sale ! Please make me an offer. I am in Newport Beach Ca (40 miles south of Los Angeles). The boat 'Hale Kai' is in great condition, with inboard Atomic 4 (gas). New upholstery on inside, good outside vinyl cushions, VHS radio & GPS, new head, plumbing & tanks, new bottom...
I'm replacing the traveller on my E-27 with a new Harken setup, including risers, track, etc.
Has anyone made this upgrade, and what problems did you encounter? Specifically, I'm planning on using the full Harken 4' flat track section ( #1511.4), and not cut it to 41" as on my current setup...
After extensive web research, I have decided that the E27 is the boat for me! I know of a number for sale in the northeast, through boats.com, sailnet, soundingsonline, etc., but I wonder if any Ericson owners out there are contemplating moving up or out.
I will sail the boat on the south...
Someone asked before about the sailing qualities of an E27; that they were considering purchasing one. Can anyone describe those qualities, and offer some information that might be useful to that fellow?
Thanks,
